They just tried to take money from my bank...auto renewal.

Bank refused, so Admiral write to me.

Which is the first I have heard from them, cos they didn't even send me a renewal notice!

OK, the price wasn't too bad, cheaper then last year (very surprising!), but surely they have to notify you first?

:mad2:

I always get a letter from them about a month before confirming the price and that it will auto renew unless you contact them. I have been with them for about 5 years now

have yu read yo T&Cs ?

Yes, I am one of those sad farts who read them all. Sends the wife mad :blah:

Anyway, phoned them and the bloke said it cos of the Web/Electronic documents thing.

Basically, if you download your policy, Admiral group will assume you do everything electronically, so will NEVER send you paper.

I don't really check the email address I use for insurance and stuff, cos they only spam you with junk all the time, plus I put a harsh filter on, so I recon the renewal notice they apparently sent via email got junked before it even got to the inbox ....wasn't there when I checked after phoning.

Best to use the phone if you use Admiral and want paper notices.

i am with Admiral for all my other cars.(they wont offer greenlaning or offroad cover like flux) and i have to say the multicar policy is a god send. :)

Flux, did the auto renewal thing on me this year. And although totally legal i think its morally wrong. It just goes to show that the company, and indeed any company that does auto renew dont give a **** about there customers, there just interested in getting money in the bank.

They might give the company spiel about 'saving us the hassle of calling' and blah blah blah. But essentially its just a way to get money from your bank into theirs and then when its there most people will just stick with the renewal as its hassle to change it. If they did care about customers then they would call to make sure its convenient.

Basically i dont like flux and i dont want to insure my landy with them but they were £50 cheaper than the other 3 companies i tried.

Next year im determined to not use flux though, there customer service and care is diabolical.

GINGA_BEARD,

I can appreciate where you are coming from, but for the insurance companies it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. Let me justify my comment;

Imagine 1 person, but two different situations.

Firstly, we DO auto renew their policy. The client then checks their bank and sees that an insurance company has taken their money out of the account without telling them. We then get a client on the phone angry as to why we've renewed their policy. This client hasn't told us he doesn't wish to renew with us, so we assume he's happy with the price and enure he has continuous cover. This isn't the case in this instance, he's gone elsewhere, we simply cancel the policy and refund the amount taken. The result, the client has lost out on nothing, and had minimal distress.

Secondly, we DON'T auto renew their policy, yet Mr Bloggs has completely forgotten that his insurance was up for renewal. He pops to out to do the weekly shop and gets pulled over by the boys in blue, picks up a court date for driving without insurance resulting in 6 points and a means tested fine of £500. We then get a phone call from a customer shouting at our advisors holding us responsible for their motoring conviction. A motoring conviction that will now also increase his insurance premiums for the next 3 years.

I appreciate that it can be a pain in the backside, and were a company to auto renew even after being told not to, I'd side with you in that it is completely unacceptable. But in the long run, it is only done to ensure that the clients are protected.

Thanks.,

Ed

Thanks for the reply.

Having read and examining the information given i have come to the conclusion that, that is complete and utter bollocks. :D

If i dont have insurance on my vehicle then thats my fault and no one else's, i expect that law applies to anyone not just me

I also expect flux are aware of this and would not take responsibility for the customer not having insurance. Neither would that stand up in court.

There is no other reason to Auto renew than to try and get repeat business by hoping the customer cant be bothered to shop around or by hoping they dont realise until its too late and they have no choice. Which is immoral. :(

Remember years ago when auto renew didnt exist? whatever did people do then??? im pretty sure they remembered or got done for it.

Anyway, i appreciate you replying even if i do think its a load of waffle. ;)

+1 it's just a way of scamming their customers. Many of whom don't realise that a 1st years policy is always cheaper than the following years, because they want you in their system.

AA did it to me for my breakdown cover 1st I knew about it was when my AA card arrived Which I found very strange as I've changed my debit card and it has a completely different number on it. Bank still authorised the ithdrawal though

So 2 na sayers and several happy campers since Ed has been on board. Looks like ED is doing about 90%+ pretty Damn good. Thing is you can never please all the people all the time.

So well done to Flux and ED:D

You'll need to give us a call and talk to the subs department. Sadly that's something that I've never been trained to do.

Cheers,

Ed

A very good answer my friend & exactly my sentiments. I don't currently have an insurance problem but feel that the industry in general is about as bent as it can be whilst still remaining legal. I never renew without doing the 'rounds' as I too have had jacked-up renewals (with no change in my vehicle or circumstances) where the IC has then offered to 'match' an alternative quote I've scourced. Talk about try-it-on, it must be hell for younger owners but I'm an old fart with a max bonus & with age comes wisdom plus a total lack of tolerance for bull**** :p The IC's all cry about the extensive use of comparison web-sites - but who started the war in the first place?
