Ive a problem with my ACE system ............. lol


As ive no idea of the set up being a SII n00b.


I had the car home checked all the fluids when i purchased the car, they all looked fine glanced at the PAS res and took it for granted that all was well.

After a further week and gutting the car inside/out and the bay i realized after looking in the owners man. the ACE res is a dual one with the PAS on the side (separate compartments) and then discovered that a hose looks like its missing........ and last night prepping the bolts for the EGR bypass, there is a hose with a banjo, tie wrapped onto one of the hoses from the inter cooler.

Is this worth investigating/fixing???? and does it have any side affects of it not working???

You have posted this in "engines",it aint going to get much attention here,if the Ace pipes have been disconnected without any other mod then the handling could potentially be quite dangerous.To remove Ace properly entails fitting non Ace rollbars and droplinks front and rear,and of course removing the pump and fitting an idler pulley in its place

It may be that a previous owner has either disabled or removed the ACE system from your Disco.

Check in the front and rear offside wheel arches to see if the hydraulic rams of the system are still in place.

Check to see if the ACE pump is still in place (follow the disconnected pipe).

When these cars get a bit older their ACE hydraulic pipes start to corrode and leak - so some owners simply disconnect the header tank pipe but nothing else. THIS IS ENTIRELY INCORRECT AND COULD LEAD TO INSTABILITY;

The ACE system should be fully working or completely removed and replaced by std manual anti-roll bars.

The front rams are defo still there, the rear I will check in a bit I'm at work atm. < just checked, the rear dampers are still there.

The pipes have slight corrosion nothing heavy at the drivers side wheel to suggest any leaks.

I will fire up some pics to show this mysterious hose to give a better idea.

Lol sounds like its going to be mega bucks either way, and as I said I wouldn't say its any worse handling than my 300Tdi .... But never the less it aint right and needs sorted :).

Oh forgot to say there is NO dash warning lamp warning illuminated when the its running!!
 
Yes as James says, the ACE pump looks to have been disconnected.

However that means the you have ACE arb's but without hydraulic assistance - NOT GOOD!

What should really now is the removal and replacement of the ACE arb's and the associated kit ie valve block, pipes, pump (if still there) and sell it on Ebay to fund the new non-ACE arb's.

The ACE pump is run off the fan belt and is located on the rhs of the engine, as you look into the engine bay.

The problem with repairing the ACE system is the the most common problems relate to corroded pipes. The replacement are expensive enough on their own but you need to replace the seals as well. Also they are a right bitch to replace and keep them oil-tight.

Some owner have modified the valve block to house std hydraulic fittings and then installed normal hydraulic hose.

Other owners have simple removed the ACE system completely and installed std arb's - I believe the kit of parts costs about £200.

I recently had a TD5 that had been properly de-ACE'd and it drove perfectly - with peace of mind at not having to worry about corroding pipes etc.

Awe honstly thanks for the replies and advice ...... Looks like I will de-ACE it as it could grow arms and legs trying to resolve the ACE system.
