I have a D2 TD5 ES with the ace system.
Red light and warning bong today
Took it to a LR workshop and after computer diagnoses it was said that the valve block was the problem.

My problem is i have been quoted £1200 inc vat for replacement part only, plus fluid and labour and vat for fitting
Need input form people who know better if possible.
I have been advised to dump ace and get conventional set up
Will be more reliable and save some pennies also.

Is there any ride difference between ace and conventional set up ?
Do i need to inform insurance company of change ?

Annoying as i have just had both air bags changed for new OE 2 months ago.

Advice needed please thanks

First off, ACE is the front end of the car. Adaptive Cornering Enhancements (?)

Air bags are SLS (Self Levelling Suspension).

Which do you mean?

OPS front end seems to be the problem. Air bags replaced 2 months ago
My bad i do not know about car stuff
While the LR was on the computer he made the front jump up/down and the res was washing around which meant the pump was working
The weird thing is i was reversing into a car parking spot when the red warning and bong started going off
Having traveled 14 miles down country lanes without any lights or bongs

There are no air bags at the front.
Could you specify which red light?
How did he make the front jump up and down?

Air bags on the rear of the car
Red light for ACE which is car with 2 arrows either side looking down
Car jumped whilst he had computer plugged in. he pushed something on the keypad and it jumped front only

Am i right in thinking rear air bags can stay on if i go for standard option and do away with ACE ?

Just seen this. Am thinking this is the option to do away with ACE

You can remove ACE and install standard anti roll bars. The basic D2s didn't have ACE when they left the factory.

I've seen a lot more people remove the air bags (SLS) and replace then with coil springs than I have seen remove ACE.

Personally I'd fix it. But not for £1200. I'd wait for the real experts on here to assist with diagnosis and solution.

I'm just an enthusiastic bystander!

Ace is front and back. Thats why pipes go to the rear of the vehicle.

As for the OP problem. By pass it. I done it well over a year ago and still run on ACE rams locked up. The vehicle still drives as before.

But its the problem of trying to get one fitted where it doesn't leak again soon at the seals. The block must be one of the poorest designed ever. What was wrong with a standard compression fitting at each pipe?

Somewhere on here someone converted a block to standard fittings

If someone could convert the block, and supply pipes/hoses that don't corrode the way originals do, I would still be running on ACE as it is a good sytem when working. As it is, it is too expensive to repair.

I am thinking of buying a SH block and converting it to standard fittings, and get a local hydraulic specialist to supply parts when the time comes.

Too many corners on my commute otherwise!

I've kept my pump that was removed. But to be honest, if I could pick up conventional roll bars for a good price i would just convert to those. I don't plan in thowing it into any corners any time soon.

My ACE system failed last year. Land Rover specialist removed the pump and replaced it with a pulley and shorter belt. Car is a wee bit more walllowy on uneven terrain but normal driving is unaffected. I left the roll bars as is.

£140.

You could replace the block (or whatever else, one of my rams went) but it'll probably go again because its rubbis- sorry, prone to failure.

;-)

I found teh roll on a D1 rather disconcerting

Fitted conversion kit disconnected the ace and turned it of at ecu. Motor feels a lot tighter now less boat like.
