HI, looking for a bit of inspirational advice.......My wife seems to have knackered my 99 Disco TD5 !! On Sat the auxiliary drive belt snapped, and after getting her relayed back to the house l noticed that the ACE fluid reservoir was totally empty and it also looks like the pump has collapsed !!:mad: Now l know that this area of 'ACE' is a nightmare and l know its a costly repair, what l was wondering is, could l just remove the pump and put in an idler pulley and fit a shorter belt thus disengaging the ACE system altogether?! :confused: Regards

YES !!! I did this on mine - and then got rid of it !!!

If you take the pump out of the car the electronic systems see a fault and the red ACE warning light will come along with the bongs !!! If you take out the ACE relay (R14 or 15 from memory) in the box under the bonnet the red light changes to yellow and no more bongs.
 
thanx, there was no 'bongs' or 'bings' nor even any lights came on to warn us about the problem. Maybe previous owner removed the fuses. Did you put an idle pulley on in the pumps place or did you just fit a smaller belt?

Mine was done before I bought the car but I saw a receipt for a shorter belt, so presumably that's how it was done.
