is there anyway that the a/c pump could power a on board compressor
Why use it to power a compressor - it is a compressor!! and yes, i have heard many years ago, the A/C compressor was converted to charge an air reciever used for tyre filling, and small tools use....A/C clutch was controlled by a pressure switch when the reciever was full.
I have converted a range rover classic air con compressor to fill tyres etc..
all you need to do is use a air tool oiler in the air inlet to oil the pump , then on the outlet use a spray gun filter/water trap to remove the oil , as you don't want oil in your tyres ,
works well and fills tyres quick
Mine has a air line from the air tank and works really well .

Yes.does that not put more pressure on the eas compressor
got any pics of it
I have three 12 volt compressors, the oldest I've had for 20 years and still works fine. The one I carry in the P38 resides in the spare wheel centre, no chance of it falling out.most of the ones ive bought havent lasted very long either burnt out or broke when fell out of boot thats why i thought of a inboard one

Jeff,
What happens to the oil in the compressor, I don't have any experience with auto ac, but if its any thing like a normal refrigeration circuit it wouldn't last two minutes due to ack of oil, or are you saying that you put oil in every time you use it?
What type of oil is in the comp?
