ABS pump current draw

Ok, I fitted a used 4.0 gems starter which went on great even though its slightly longer. She cranks very well now.
I think I found the cause of the old starters woes; I have tubular headers and they sit very close to the solenoid. There is no heat shield in there as there is no room so the starter has probably got cooked and fecked the motor windings. This was causing mega current draw on starting. It was so bad that a brand new battery was being drained on one cold start to the point where it wouldnt start the next day.
Ive ordered a sheet of heat resistant matting from ebum, only £3 and will wrap the starter in it to help this one last a bit.
The headers did make it easy to get the old starter off tho at least!

kool..wrap the hesders too with heat wrap tape/cloth..helps keep engine bay temps down too as well as helping hp awee bit.
