Hi disco lovers / haters ! Just got mine back from diagnostics for three amigo woes and told is abs modulator needed , by the time it's fitted they want just about two grand which is more than it cost and about two grand more than I've got ! Any advice is hugely appreciated

It's probably just the shuttle valve switch replacing and possibly wiring mod that is required. Do a search for it, it's a very cheap fix.

Failing that, used replacement modulator from a breakers.

Have just picked disco up and all the guy would tell me is needs a whole new modulator , he was a **** and didn't like me mentioning shuttle valve or wiring mod so will not be using him again ! I have twelve months mot and disco still goes down hills and stops ! Is just annoying and want cheap fix . Am a much better builder than mechanic !

Don't waste money on the shuttle valve switch assy...if the fault is "SVS failure" not the switches are faulty but the shuttle valves module in 99% of cases. That's why the mod with wiring through the switches to earth is fixing it. Most of those who made the mod didnt replace the switch assy just did the bypass and it worked... ...so if you want to fix it for good without any mod you need this ABS Modulator Control Valve Kit (Wabco) SWO500040 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. , not just the cheap ABS Modulator Shuttle Valve Repair Kit (Wabco) SWO500030 Island 4x4 - Specialists in Land Rover and Range Rover Parts and accessories for all models. UK and worldwide mail order. which usually has no problem ...so if you go for the SVS mod ABS Mod - LAND ROVER CLUB V.I.
option B and those resistances are good the "cheap" switch assy is wasted money... the problem is within the valve module(the expensive one) where those resistances are loosing theyrs value...as it's demonstrated in the tutorial too that guy removed the switch assy and measures the resistances on it and all the values are good so the switches are ok but the fault code was "SVS failure"

Think about that

Have looked at the abs mod landrover club link a couple of times and can only see half of it as rest not loading ? Is anywhere else I can look ?

ABS TC HDC LANDROVER DISCOVERY II WABCO - YouTube watch it without sound:D ...it's a bit fiddly but you can remove the switches "in situ" without disturbing the pipes...be handy...off course if the switch assy is in bad shape or it doesnt give good readings make the mod on a new one....be aware this mod will fix only the SVS faults..if the 3 amigos are triggered by something else(e.g. sensors) it wont help

I've had to do loads of these,I always start off with a new switch pack, two reasons - first they DO fail and second it gives more chance of a "never fault again" fix. I use a two core wire out through the bottom of the new switch, but I splice the earthing one back into the original loom earth.Cover the cable with the same shrouding,(But smaller) as the original loom, all taped neatly. This way it looks like it came out of the factory like it,rather than having extra odd wires going to obviously non original terminals.
The same fix also works on Defenders....
I do both without disconnecting fluid pipes, with the Defender you do have to be little more imaginative in how you do it as there is very little room.
The most annoying thing about this fix is that I found it on the net AFTER doing 2 or 3 of them under my own steam....

Thanks v much for taking time to give advice chaps , would a garage (friendly) do the option b mod or is it an enthusiast I need ? As I said earlier I'm a better builder than mechanic , I do love this forum and my landy though

There is a good garage in Penryn just down the road from Asda, they look after mine and all are Land Rover nuts. I have always found them fair and their work good. They are Steve Toyer Land Rover. The Phone number is in your book. Call them, I am sure they could offer advice.
