Had a fault since I got it and wondered if the symptoms are common with the standard ABS faults.
P38, 4.0 SE 1997.
Pull up to a junction from any speed, bakes fine until last 5 - 10 MPH and the brake pedal vibrates every second (ok 1 sec, vibrate 1 sec, like a warped disc but with an ABS type vibration).

So, is it the same symptoms as the standard modulator fault? The brakes are good and the peday is firm, except when the speed drops to a crawl.

Anyone near me with a scanner?

Ta.

Have a look for a disc grabbing then letting go. Warp or high spot. ABS should not operate at that speed.

ABS fault comes on when i start up then the message disappears. Discs feel fine but the abs comes in at low speed the same way you would feel a badly warped disk grabbing.
ABS light isn't lit on the dash, the only message is on the message centre when I start up.

Cheers.

Think you need to get the codes read. Might be a bad connection in loom under fuse box. Check all connections to ABS unit and ECU. Normally the modulator won't modulate unless it's told to. If the ABS light goes out as you move off it is not likely to be a sensor unless there is one with a intermittant or high resistance connection.

I noticed something I hadn't noticed before with it today.
I went to get my lad from school (isn't that what Range Rovers are made for, the school run?) and the error warning in the message centre didn't come on (as it usually doesn't straight away) and I got to school without the ABS clicking under my foot, not once.

I got to school, stuck it in park and then beep beep beep....ABS Fault on the display accompanied by the vibrating brake pedal as described.

Dunno why, I drove to school in D3 (it doesn't change to top properly and its just more comfortable in D3 round town) whereas I normall use D, could it be connected?

Haha. You.only just noticed? Head gasket tomorrow, will have a look at the tapppets while the inlet manifold is off, fingers crossed eh.

yeah you may aswell, have a look for metal filings too!

got my heater blower working properly today for the first time since I have had it :D

Tomorrow might be one of the last decent days we have this year so thought I'd better get the head done, make sense to have your heater done too :D

Metal filings where? In the sump? I checked the oil yesterday and its like new, no sign of anything wearing although that said, I'll be having all the tappets out for a good check.

I would look all over for em , summit has to be bindning yer tappets up, whilst its all of again why dont you dump a can of mollyslip over em, might help!

if its the last good day im fooked lol, nah the 72 is in a garage thankfully and I might try sortin the lights and oil light sender if the missus leave me enough time today.

the reconstruction of the inner door is comin on a treat at work, if I get enough time i might finish it monday and I will put the pics on here.

UPDATE:

After a few days of abuse in the snow, I'm not getting any ABS errors anymore and no vibrating under the pedal.
Lesson learned, when it goes wrong, KICK ITS FOOKIN HEAD IN!!!!
