I am looking to replace my ABS Accumulator, on my 4.6 petrol 1997.
I have looked at all the Treads on LandyZone but I am still very confused.
If I just unscrew the old Accumulator will I blow my head off or will it be ok? Do I have I depressurise the system and if so how do I do this. There are also conflicting Threads on wheatear I need to Bleed the braking system after the replacement.
Please can someone just explain to me in plain English how the job is done
Thanks for your help

Depressurise by pressing the brake pedal 30 times, unscrew and replace. I didn't bleed my brakes straight after and it was fine, but it would be a good idea to change the fluid at the same time.

There are instructions of how to do this in RAVE. I think you have to press an additional few times a period after the initial 30 in order to fully de-pressurise?

Wouldn't do any harm bleeding the brakes tho wouldn't want water in the system unless you have changed it recently , every 2 years if unknown why chance it .

Me too I save all the crawl about on the floor jobs Especially:):):)

Crawling about on the floor is not the problem it's getting down there and more difficultly getting back up that's the bugger. Specially when it's cold. Mine needs doing but it'll have to wait til summer. ;););):)

Ah that shows our age Difference , unlike you Instant.
I suffer the next day I'm catching up tho :):):)

I did my accumulator and fluid just before the bad weather, along with changing the front to rear pipes and all the flexis. I didn't even particularly look at the flexis I just kept thinking that my brakes were relying on some (possibly) twelve year old bits of rubber tubing!!

But if you get up too quick its better than being on drugs

bugger.
how often is too often?

mine runs 60secs + on nearly every start up.

Lamp can take up to 40 seconds to go out (110 bars minimum working pressure) if motor has been left for a while. Pump may run longer to reach full pressure (180 bars) but lamp should to go out within the 40 second time frame. If lamp is taking a long time to go out either pump is weak or more likely accumulator is down on pre-charge and needs replacing.
