Cheers. The colour is a darkish grey. Anthracite grey I believe. It was of ebay. I will find the link out later.

If I'm honest I would buy a compressor. You will find more uses for it than you would think and wouldn't be without mine now.

As for spray cans. The question you've got to ask your self is how long is it going to stay looking like that. Not very long would be my answer from previous experience of spray cans.
Do it properly the first time and it will last a long time and you wont regret it

Got the fuel tank and a couple of bulkhead brackets painted tonight.
Also painted the engine bay side of the bulkhead.
Not a lot of progress but it's getting there slowly.
Hoping to get the engine and gearbox in tomorrow night.

Cheers, This is only the second vehicle I have sprayed so pretty chuffed with the results.
The first one I did was my brothers 90, Which I did in cellulose and I've got to say this 2k stuff I'm using on mine seems a much better product all round.

So I put the engine and gearbox in tonight,

I decided to put the gearbox in first.

Picked the engine up and the struggle began, Were it was stored requires you pushing the engine crane over some grass. Easier said than done

From there it pretty mush went straight in with just a bit of a giggle. Hardest part being the ground, concrete with stones in it. (don't know the technical term :lol So the engine crane doesn't push smooth.

Will be giving the engine and box a bit of a clean up. Just thought it would be easier with it fitted.

Cheers Its some thing you can look at all the time, so to me I thought it was worth the extra time and effort to make it look right.

Excellent thread, I thought I would be rechassising mine this year but A good look at it on the ramp during the MOT revealed it's not deteriorated much over the last year or too, I only needed a tubular outrigger and a patch on the rear cross member, both of which I have known about for ages.

Cheers. I was expecting the worse to be honest so was a pleasant surprise
Should last a long time until it needs any more welding.

Well tonight I started by connecting the engine loom and generally tidied a bit of the wiring up.
Then I got the oil cooler pipes fitted, Power steering pipes fitted and the radiator. And a few other bits and pieces in the engine bay.

And she's alive
I haven't even got the fuel tank fitted yet, But I just couldn't resist

Excellent work.... The parts that came off, tidied up and resprayed certainly look the business!

Cheers, They came up better than I thought they would

So not a lot done today as I've took the back axle of my brothers this evening.

So only got a couple of brake pipes made up and the flexi's fitted.

I'm using one of these to make the pipes up. I tried a cheapy flaring tool and couldn't get any were near a decent flare.

Plus some parts arrived.
Not in the pic but I ordered some headlight surrounds and a new grill. Made sure I ordered the same make so that they would be the same finish. But no. The grill Is shinny and smooth were as the headlight surrounds are a rough matt finish. Looks like I'm going to have to paint them.

just a quick question, with all that effort painting axles and stuff would it not be worth it to degrease the engine and gearboxes and jetwash them back to shiny shiny?

If I had a jet wash I would do it. I haven't even got an outside tap.

I plan to give it a good wire brush and clean it the best I can in situ.
(It was stored on the patio and I'd have got a bollocking if I got crap all over it )

I have to admit I was wondering the same.
Having done a few LR rebuilds myself over the years and now re-doing some work to my 90 (which I rebuilt & Waxoyled 12-years ago) I would choose galvanising as a basis for longevity every time.
Waxoyl is lovely stuff and I swear by it but galvanising is a relitively cheap process and stands up to the rigors of everyday life better than paint, especially on things like the chassis, bulkhead, axles, suspension parts etc. For the ultimate in protection, I have Waxoyled my newy galvanised parts so hopefully they will see me out.

Apart from that, great thread.

As much as I would like a galvanized chassis. Doing so would be so much more work. As I would want to galvanise the bulkhead, axles and nearly every bracket I could. So would probably take me twice as long as this is going to.

This was my daily drive so it needs to be done quickly but without rushing and cutting corners. Although when this is finished I will probably build something along those lines as there will be no time constraints.

Not as good a weekend as I would have hoped as I've been working on my brothers getting it ready for the mot.

Still managed to get the props on,
fuel tank fitted
Fixed the diff lock as it wasn't engaging properly and fixed the light as that wasn't working either. (Wires had been cut off)
speedo connected
fitted the down pipe
and got the windscreen frame prepped. Hopefully get some paint on it during the week.

Any pretty painted pictures yet? Looking good so far.
