Make/rebuild your own chassis and bulkhead, I would...and tell DVLA sod all:D:D:D

With the bulkhead, I think I'll buy the door pilars and top section and make the bit between that and the footwells.

The chassis can be repaired but will buy the rear crossmember. I'm not a very competent welder but my dad is :D

Only hold up with any progress now is waiting for one of the barn bays to get cleared out then I can put it in the barn and start to dismantle it. Unfortunately that's all that's holding up any more progress :(
 
not had enough funds to get any new parts yet. and just cleared a bay in the barn ready for it to go and and start being dismantled. BUT my dads p38 decided it didnt like the front of its engine any more so thats got to go in first for a new engine! hopefully will be able to get it apart in the new year before i go back to uni
 
What do the DVLA think of a home built chassis?

From my experience of building my own series 3 swb Chassis from 3mm steel! DVLA are completely happy PROVIDING you use at least TWO or more of the original crossmembers! Or PART of the original chassis!You just are not allowed to just build a complete brand new Chassis! Its considered BUILDING a new car! There are points you acrue from the original parts like suspension! Engine and gearbox during restoration that prevents you assembling a car from just new parts! Otherwise you CANNOT retain the original vehicles identity and you will have to go down the route of Chassis inspection etc etc BUT YOU ARE ALLOWED to buy a new Chassis from a professional authorized Chassis builder! kind regards.
