Hi All , as of tea time today I am now the proud owner of a land rover discovery 2 on a 2000 plate. I have owned one a few year ago 4.0 litre v8 but before I got around to joining forums / owners clubs etc the thing blew up on me, had it running on gas & I am assuming high tension leads were ( or 0ne of them ) was sparking against the cylinder head & it caught fire basically.

Anyhow that is in the past in the past I now have a 2.7 litre diesel ( I think ) which I am already looking to up grade to do a bit more " off roading " as I spend a lot of time in the highlands of Scotland ( towing my caravan up there yearly ) I am hoping to up grade the suspension / bull bars fitted / spots etc if needed........

I am wondering firstly if this would need to be done taking into consideration where I am hoping to go...?? I do like a lot of driving up at Kielder something which I would like to do more now that I have the discovery.

Would anyone kindly point me in the right direction of someone in the North East / Newcastle / south Tyneside area who could maybe give me some advice on how I can upgrade some of the above at a reasonable cost... ??

I know & have read that a lot of parts for discovery's can be picked up at reasonable prices & they are not that difficult to work on...but I am going to be 100% honest I am useless.....!!!!!

I would prefer to buy the parts ( suspension etc / spots / bull bars & have someone fit them , as mentioned at reasonable labour costs.

The type of roads / tracks I am on about in Scotland are not really off road but something a car would have no chance of managing... ( I think you will all have an idea of the tracks I am on about )......maybe I do not need to upgrade certain things...it would be just my luck though to be told after trying that I should of " had this upgraded & that upgraded" if I was to get stuck.

Sorry for the long winded 1st post...........just trying to keep everything right for my first trip in June / july time.................

many thanks in advance

Regards

David

WELCOME!
Stock Disco 2 TD5 is a 2.5 litre diesel ;) It is also damned capable as it is (I'm finding this out myself as I only got mine in June) - some may consider a lift kit, but seeing as you're towing, the tow bar would still get in the way depending upon how extreme you want to go. A set of less road-biased tyres (all-terrain, mud-terrain) would go a fair way to helping you green lane/off-road.
