Right my v8 Disco has started to show signs of the cylinder head crack so I am gonna replace the engine. I've set aside the summer to do it so time is not an issue. I dont want to buy a new car as I love a challenge.

I'm lookign at replacing with a 4.6 lump and I knwo the NAS spec discos have a HP24 gearbox. I know from talks with people that the HP24 gearbox is 15mm longer than the HP22 gearbox. Does this mean I would need new prop shafts etc in order to fit this gearbox?

also any other probs associated with the Auto ECU etc in fitting a HP24?

can I get a HP24 from a rangie?

**** all that, just bolt the 4.6 in and try it, I reckon it'll be fine.

It'll bolt to your original 'box so I wouldn't worry, if it blows up then do something about it.

I've got a 3.5 V8 in a cortina on the original 2.0 axle, so far i've done 20,000 miles with it like this, why upgrade if you dont need to?
