Hi there,

I've been looking into getting another Series landy, and there's a Series 2 in the area that's caught my eye. The owner is looking for £1500 for it in it's current state. As far as I know it's not been run in who knows how long, so I'm guessing the engine is going to be seized, the chassis as far as I can see and been told is in good nick and does'nt appear to have ever been welded. Interior wise, it just needs a good clean and a lick of paint but I'm thinking his asking price is a little too steep.

What do you guys think?

  For 1500 of your english pounds you should be getting a tidy good runner with a long mot. One that's been laid up for ages and is a bit of an unknown is a few hundred quid's worth unless it's got something really worth having like a galvanised chassis and even the you're probably only looking at 500 quid max. If they've been laid up for any length of time they often cost more to get sorted than they're worth.

1500 squids!
ee's avin a giraffe.

there's a solid / running (but cosmetically scruffy) one, with 12 months MOT for sale near here. he's asking £750 but would take £500.

Cheers for the help there. The guy is coming across as a helluva chancer. He keeps going on about how it's all original and just needs a tidy. However, my Series 3 i got for a whole £1000, the only problem with that is that the back half of the chassis has been welded to hell and is now on its way out.

I'm gonna have a good look at the Series 2 this morning and see if I can have a poke around the chassis. I'm not expecting it to be up to much and I'll post later on.

I'll look forward to hearing about this. I have a 110 but have longed for a series for aaaaggggeeeeesss! Ha!

Is it in running order? Is is a Series 2? It sounds like a hella good deal.
I'm in Ayrshire though, how far away from me are you?

I went to see that Series 2 this morning. The chassis is rock solid with not a weld in sight, body work is straight, little scruffy but nothing major. Only problem being that it's a trailer job and weeks taking apart the thing then rebuilding. It's a lovely looking landy but he's only prepared to go to £1000 for it, and that seems hella much when I compare it to some of the other original landies i've seen online.

Has he said why it's a non runner? Is it petrol or doosul? Did you actually have a good hard prod at the chassis with a BIG screwdriver?

I'd be inclined to try to 'provisionally' agree on a price, then stick some oil in the pots, let it soak, turn it over gently by hand & connect up a known good battery & see if it'll start.

Just agree a price so he can't put it up once it's a runner! You couldr still walk away if it's shot to ****. ;)

Oh, & piccies, we likes piccies here. :D

seeing them online and seeing them in the flesh are 2 totally different things - my attitude is to never spend more than £500 on a landy unless you have seen it in the flesh

i've been to see so called good runners with MOT in the flesh that turn out not to have an engine in - but then i've also got some right good uns for much less that £500 without having seen them first

and a few really crap ones

Good stuff sean. Stick to 500 quid for buying one then spend whatever else you've got in the piggy bank on getting it sorted. If you assume it'll be a pile of crap with loads of work needed and it in fact turns out better than that you have a result;)

it is hard not to have a smurk on yer face when you turn up with yer trailer to collect the lastest sub £500 blind ebay purchase and to find it's got a new set of 7.50s on, a OD and a brand new Knelowe

that dunt happen very often
