well im new here :)

just a few questions realy im buying my first land rover its a 1983 series 3 im told by the owner that it was taken to the garage and they said it needed all 4 leaf springs replacing and the fron swivel hub and they also said it needed welding to the chassis so my first question is

1) can you name all the rot points on the chassis

2) what is the best way to tell if a chassis is beyond repair

3) what would you say was a fair price to pay for a land rover of that year needing those repairs

PLEASE KEEP IT ON SUBJECT I DONT WANT ANY RAMBLING HIKERS WHO HAVE LOST THERE WAY...

Hi, I've just joined, I need you to do some stuff for me even though you don't know me from Adam, maybe if I put a smilie it will help.
Here's what I need, you have to use your hard earned experience and knowledge to answer my questions, and then I will leave.

Oh, by the way, don't ask me any silly questions or waste my time cause I ain't got time for that stuff

Bloody forums, full of people trying to help, why do I bother

rambling hiker

what hes referring to is that weve had a fair spate recently of people joining here just to ask questions almost exactly like you have only to dissapear into the abyss of the world and not put anything back into the forum

we call them the 1 post wonders

the rambling hiker thing hes just done is a test of your metal to see if you really are serious about taking on a series landy and is your skin thick enough to put up with a bit of criticism

so if you can measure up to the challenge and hold your own things will settle down when people see your not leaving

were not rivvet counters in here we are ordinary people ( average joe's ) with the full set of emotions including a sense of humour and inteligence towards low post count newbies

i personally have advised and helped bout 8 new people in the last 3 weeks that have asked their questions then dissapeared with not so much as a cheers, kiss me arse or nowt ( boils my **** it does ):mad:

and i suspect im not alone in this :rolleyes::rolleyes:

if your serious about it then here goes ( now remember this is a free forum ) so first yer main areas of chassis rot are

front spring hangers and chassis legs ese pics are of my series landy when i bought her

rear spring hangers and chassis rails

rear crossmembers usualy where its joined to the chassis rail as its a water and **** trap

now pay special attention to the outriggers holding the bulkhead on as they rot along the top so have a feel wherever you cant see

pay particular attention to the outriggers holding the fuel tank and have a dig at the **** between them and the tank also look at the seals on the corners of the fuel tank for signs of fettling where leraks have been bodged

if you want to know roughly what its worth i cant tell you without seeing pics as you havent put any up but to give you an idea of what you can expect
i payed £340 cash for this

a couple of hundred quid later and near 900 man hours later still on its original repaired chassis ive now got this

just dont get ****y with a few sarchastic points of view and youll do well

and if you are a 1 post wonder itll have been worth the effort of this post not having to put up with this anymore :D:D

Wow Johnny, spectacular Landy!

There's a bloke in Italy wanting to sell a series that's been sitting in a garage for 30 years but he wants loads of euros for it. Here's a picture: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341589618.598071.jpg
