There is a conversion chart etc for whitworth,AF,BA and metric bolt and spanner sizing Imperial to metric socket and spanner size comparison charts.

still got my "zeuss" book and thread gauges & 8 inch vernier handy for bolts/nuts when I get stumped.
even better I still got toolboxes full on "unwanted" back in the days whit/bsf/AF/BA spanners that I collected over the years.
knew I kept them for a reason ?
I bought a disco.................. but "aint" they metric?
sockets in one box are both metric and "english/american"
if one dont fit the next one does.
I mostly use gun sockets or shank drive sockets anyway....

Pleas bear in mind that the finer thread of imperial fixings, verses metric course thread, will give a greater tightening force... and cheap metric bolts are not always made to the same hardness specification as the imperial bolt you are replacing.
It's worth bearing in mind when dealing with important bits like brakes, transmission and the like !

This is true. I was thinking more along the lines of anything that has a nut on the end
You can get UNF bolts without to much trouble. If your working on / restoring something that has Imperial fixings it might be easier to keep them all the same.

Don't think I got enough whit spanners
Still got all my King Dick sets of Whit/BSF up to 1 1/4"W, 0 to 16 BA, 1/16 to 3/4BSP and 1/8 to 1 3/4 AF, and enough metrics to fit almost anything.
I also have sockets from 1/16" to 1 1/4" Whit, 1/8" to 1 1/2"AF and 2.5 to 54mm in metrics.

you and me both... looking deep into you collection shows up some unusauall ones too.
I even got some WD ones and some marked BSA....
the nearest I get to doing anything with them is the occasional spray of WD to stop `em going rusty
(they get very little oily use !!)

Got a start on my collection:
Need to give them a wee clean up, going to soak them in some diesel then when I get the chance I'll take them out and clean them up.
Just need an old style toolbox to keep them in now

Got one stamped WD 1914 other are big 4 railway companies and some aircraft manufacturers and Austin crops up alot And my 1 1/2 whit spanner is cut out of a bit of 7/8ths plate!
