Hello all,
Thought you might be interested to see our blog update - day 1 disaster and we are only 4 days into our 7.5 week UK to Morrocco trip. Am beginning to think we are a bit jinxed.
We went for both a hand winch and an electric winch in the end - little good they are doing at present though we could have probably hauled ourselves off the motorway at a push. Needless to say we are doing plenty of kiddy things with the kids to get them acclinatised and settled and we'll check in again soon. Fridge is fixed inside middle of 2nd row seats so we lost all our fresh food. All equipment and spares etc. currently inside two pop-up tents on our campsite pitch. Check out our blog to see more details about our disaster there.
Bevhelee - still planning to hit the Dordogne on the dates agreed by hook or by crook. Anyone interested in tracking our location via our website then password is twospringerspaniels
Staying cool and calm,
Cassie and co.

I see from the blog its potential timing belt :( was this due? or just a badly adjusted one? I also notice your rig weighs nearly 4.5 ton! I dont know the exact figures for a 110 towing, but this seems too much. Im sure you have allready looked into this though :)

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Gross Train weight on a 90 is 5900Kg or 5.9tonnes so 4.5 tonnes should be well within a 110's capabilities.

Cheers Pikey, did not realise the figures were that high. Passed my towing test, but I dont plan on putting that strain on my 90. Would not like to get stuck carrying 4.5ton.

Sorry to hear the news , still a decent garage should be able to have you back on road in 4 days allowing for parts to come from UK . :)

Bonjour - good afternoon. We are currently in Sonzay near Tours - now no caravan or vehicle though we do have a 9-seater car hire for the time being. You can see latest update on our blog.
Just to clarify vehicle PLUS caravan 4.5T (caravan approx 2T total and LR remainder).
Before we left, we just had just had Foley's provide a very expensive service for us including a brand new cam belt as well all sorts of other modifications. They swapped virtually everything out for new as part of the service performed and it wqasn't cheap. In addition, we also had fridge fitted, heavy duty suspension, internal roll cage, winch plus other bits fitted in preparation for this and our bigger trip.
The vehicle seemed sluggish to us on leaving but we thought that was weight consideration. Now think maybe the new can belt maybe not fitted properly. Result was that vehicle simply died mid-flight on motorway - just lost power regardless of what gear we shifted into. Tried to get off motorway before it died but we didn't manage to make it.
Now seems that vehicle might be back on the road Friday so we must hot-foot it back to Amiens to collect, then get collect caravan in Vic-sur-Aisne and then drop hire car in Epernay before we can begin our jpurney proper.
Thanks to all for best wishes and help
Best regards
Cassie and co.

Ola from Spain (we still have not made Morocco yet) as still having issues.
Going to rename from Cassie to Jinxed at some stage. Thought you might be interested to know we have now abandoned caravan on campsite in France and are becoming quite adept with cable ties and gaffer tape. Check out latest update via website (saves retyping the tale!)
Right, off to continue enjoyment and eventually crawl to Morocco even of ends up being just a day trip!
Bye for now and thanks for all support and help so far.

Bad Luck ! Hope things improve for you.

I do know for a fact that caravans are evil, in fact Satan lives in a caravan (with his lover Sadam Hussein). Maybe now that you have ditched it things will start going right ;)

Cassie, hi, i have just returned from my europe exped, i have been reading your issues with sympathy and interest.

You still seem upbeat and positive which is great to see - strength of character and all that good stuff.

I was dissapointed to hear that your OH is not happy with the explorer, i remeber finding that on ebay. I still log onto the Jurgens website and dream of owning one.

I have still been using my columbus variant rooftent and a sankey converted into a camper trailer (Ausie style) with an RV1 oztent. I can set up in 10mins and pack down in 15mins. The kids sleep great in the oztent and OH and I enjoy the privacy and comfort of the roof tent. We do split up with boy's up and girls down if it's cold or the kids are playing up.

Keep your chin up campers.
