Since acquiring our disco I’ve been attending to the priority stuff, it can now stop thanks to new discs and pads, all fluids changed and new rear springs and shocks. I’ve also sorted the car stereo and replaced duff speakers. New tyres fitted and the chassis is due to be waxoyled.

I had a few questions on the remaining to do list:

drivers door actuator is duff on the remote, do I buy a second hand one or new, is used a false economy?

the front passenger door window goes up but unless you take your finger off the window switch quick enough you get a bang, bang, bang sound which I guess is the motor and some sort of cut out no longer works is it a quick fix or best to swap out and if so is it the motor or the regulator that needs changing?

the front wiper motor has lost the ability to so intermittent wiping and gets stuck half way across the screen, is it a case of a new wiper motor or can the exiting one be fixed?

many thanks

Paul

You could of course just live with this as so many of us do all the time.
For instance, at the moment, if i lock my Disco on the fob, the alarm goes off before I have got 20 feet away, so i lock it on the key!
But it isn't too difficult to take the door furniture off and investigate the motor and the mechanism. The motors tend to get water in them, which bizarrely doesn't seem to bother them too much.
But the mechanisms can get loose as there are bolts holding them all together, so they will benefit from a bit of tightening and obvs you need to lube the parts where things rotate etc.
Only advice I would give is to ensure you have some spare clips for mounting the door card as they can be a right sod!

Ok 1. The door central locking actuator is the lock housing two servos, locking and unlocking, plus has the ability for the ‘deadlock’ function so its a bit involved, if you choose a used unit which possibly could be 20years + old is up to you, so insure if used its newer than that, I don’t think a brand new lock costs that much, there’s lots of info around already as they appear to have their issues.

Ok 2. Sounds like the regulator is running out of teeth at the end of of its travel, possibly a new regulator has been incorrectly installed and hasn’t be synchronised with the actual height position of the class when fitting, the auto cutout is operated when the class is fully closed… or open… and the motor can’t spin any more.

Ok 3. Depends whats wrong. Wiper motors can be repaired but doubtful if you will find new parts, repair is by replacement usually.

I should have made clear that my window problem was very similar to yours, there was no problem with either the regulator or the motor or its gear wheel, the mounting bolts had just become loose. Enough to cause slippage.

Many thanks for the responses, much appreciated. I don’t think I’ve ever sat in a vehicle with such a superb driving position which is I guess why I’ve bought another, certainly more characterful than the x class that preceded it.

There are 3 copper contactors inside the wiper motor mechanism one of which is for the intermittent wiper/Park and is prone to breaking off. I repaired mine by replacing the snapped off contactor by soldering on a piece of copper domestic wire. There is a cover on the wiper motor mechanism that is rivited on, you have to drill the rivets out to remove this cover to gain access to the contactors. Once removed all should become apparent. From memory I think I was able to use self tappers to refit the cover.
I was unsure if this repair would last when I did it but it was about 5 years ago and it's still OK.
