On Saturday whilst contemplating the world on the 'Porcelain Throne' I had one of those 'Boom' moments (not THAT type of 'boom' that follows a good Curry - but one that hits you as so bleeding obvious you wonder why it never occurred to you in the first place!) I kept going over and over the photos of the process to take the heater matrix out of the HEVAC unit...and also re-reading and reading again the procedure for stripping the interior....that one photo kept popping into my head from the previous post.....
This one.....
Old Post here BTW..... https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/hevac-matrix-fsr-and-blower-removal-how-to.300415/
The question arose.....What is stopping me from sliding the Heater Matrix out the side of the unit rather than stripping the whole interior to remove the entire HEVAC unit????
The spare unit was at work so I had to wait until today to test the theory.....
This is how the unit sits in the car normally (roughly). This is the view from the drivers side.
This is the outlet horn piece that needs to be removed. 4 screws and a spring clip and it slides off
And there is the heater matrix.....
Now, obviously you will have to strip the side panels off the transmission tunnel on both sides so you can undo and remove the heater pipes on the opposite side first, then over to this side to remove the outlet horn to expose the heater matrix.
It does look like it will slide out, but first there is a small piece of moulded plastic that minutely obstructs the matrix.
Using a hacksaw blade, carefully cut this back being mindful of the matrix below
Then carefully slide the Heater Matrix out the side of the unit
The empty aperture....
Now, obviously, this is all theory.....I have not seen any photos or write ups on the internet about doing this or even the interior strip out.....so it may work, or I may still have to strip the interior....and also, everything is easy when it is on a table with easy access to things....in the car it may be more difficult, but it has got to be worth a shot right????
