A bit stuck

i'd try the defender first :)

Depends how he's stuck.

If it'd drag the recovery vehicle into a ****ty situation then better pulling the stuck vehicle out at an angle, even if it is muscle burningly slow.

If it's just plain in a rut I've got a kinetic that'd probably unbury it in seconds.

Have a go on google :):

What a load of **** lol

Lots of things are dangerous if used incorrectly, which it probably was.

The sheer pins are designed to go before the maximum breaking force of the line is reached. Some tit probably welded up the sheer pin.

Well it was the SWR that snapped, thats the only experiences of SWR snapping i have

each tirfor has a specific sized wire rope. Depending on the capacity. They are also made solely for use in a tirfor. Normal Winch cable should NEVER be used in a tirfor. To distinquish em from winch ropes they have a coloured thread wound thru em..

This is the army we are talking about though and with todays cut backs it was probably 20 years old SWR

Not much fun if it is his new toy, I do hope all goes well with the rescue. Can someone enlighten me please, what is the advice / advantage that a kinetic rope gives.

It isn't that stuck and the lane isn't that bad, quick tug probably is all that's required. If he's still there on Saturday I'll do it.

Think hoooooge bungee rope get it right and as the rope snaps tite all the energy is transferred into a "snatch" effect which Yanks the towed vehicle forwards. Get it wrong and you create too much energy which can tear off towbars & recovery points and launch them through the windscreen with enough force to kill the driver..

I won't go near a kinetic rope.

The idea is that the rope stores the energy from the recovery vehicle by stretching and then recoiling, so that say a 2 tonne disco accelerates away from the stuck vehicle at say 10 mph, it stretches the rope, recovery vehicle stops and the energy stored in the rope works on the stuck vehicle.

The loadings can be enormous to the point that bits get pulled off the vehicle, so you might have a tow hook and shackle flying through the air at ridiculous speed. Search youtube for scary videos about kinetic rope recovery.

To use a kinetic rope both vehicles need to be in great shape with proper recovery points, if they haven't steer clear.

If a tow doesn't work, a winch is a better bet.
