Well today was one of those days.
Started off well and got even better.
I went to fix a mates Alfa 156 2.4 jtd. Nice car overall, but the alternator belt had snapped. It looked an impossible job at first because of access issues as the front of the engine is microns away from the inner wing, but it turned out to be a lot easier than it first appeared.
Moomin (my TD4) carried my toolbox and jack with ease. I had no doubts really, I just thought I'd mention as I'm ded proud of her.
With one happy friend, I left to pick the dog up from my parents house. Upon doing so, I remembered a local landmark to their house by the name of Hartshead pike. I can remember driving up to it in my E30 BMW a few years back and only being able to get so far because of the terrain getting all rough.
Seeing as the dog needed walking and I needed to make sure all of Moomins wheels turned as they should and there was nothing to rush home for as the missus is away rehearsing for the Barnstaple fringe and Moomin is firing on all cylinders thanks to the help of some lovely folks on here, I took the opportunity to have a dabble at a bit of green laning.
First time for everything eh?
She handled it like a pro! It was clear when I got up there that some of the big boys had been playing as there is a couple of axle twisters dug out of the landscape and plenty of hills with nice thick grooves worn out from massive tyres.
I had a go at what I could. It was obvious I would break it on some stuff and I would be ok on others so I took no real risks. I did turn her into a tripod though.
I couldn't get out of the car to take a proper pic because of a dry stone wall, but I got one of my back wheel off the floor (yay!).
I bottomed out at one point and made full use of the n/s rock slider (oops), but no real damage was done. Just a bent bracket and wobbly slider.
I did have great fun though and the car did loads better than I thought. She is completely standard and on road tyres.
I'm now dying to do it again and would welcome any info on when a few lads are going for a drive so I could tag along. Also, if anyone fancies a drive up to where I've been, I'd be happy to show you!
I wanna get some mods on her too and push it a bit further.
The dog enjoyed it too and as she sleeps on my knee as I sip a beer, I just thought I'd share a couple of photos with you all!
