So, day off today, dropped the lad at school and came home, went out to the freelander to get a mates pc from the boot to fix for him and this happened... (see pic)

The door is still frozen shut at the moment, but what am I going to have to replace?

New handle, but ill have to swap the lock, how tricky, can I remove the handle from inside without opening the door?

Anyone replaced one?

Think I might just glue it back on for today till I've done some research at the scrappy...

You'll still be able to open the door (once it's been defrosted) it opens on a microswitch.

The handles seem to go for about £50-£60 second hand and new they are about £90.

I repaired mine by glueing in some stainless studs.

Search on here for a how to remove guide.

Same thing happened to me - i just disconnected and removed the handle entirely (both parts), took it home and very carefully epoxied it back together (i used strong epoxy with metal filings / elements in) with some reinforcement too (some flat thin metal). It's been fine since and i didn't really have to spend a penny. It's also a quick job really.

The lock asm is not part of the handle . You can repair the plastic unit or replace as said above

Looking at the wife's rear door handle, it looks like a standard thermal plastic, do you have a nice powerful soldering iron??

It's possible to 'weld' the thing back together if you line the bits up correctly and 'stir' the plastic together with the iron :) Bikers have been doing this with fairings for years ;)

As mentioned above, the door opens in an electrical switch, I can see you've disconected something at a connector in the photo, plug that back togethehr before trying to open the door.

Right, spent the day pondering a plan of attack, looks like Ive smashed one of the two micro switches, (the one activated by the handle), so will have to try and swap that one with the one on the lock. If that works, I'll try glueing the parts together with some kick-arse epoxy.

Then I'll be keeping my eye open for a new handle, in the meantime, I'll be following any advice given in my other post..

Cheers Guys.......

Before you start swapping switches over, disconnect the switch at nearest connecctor block and 'short' that out with piece of thin wire, if the door works off that then you know you have to swap the switches over, if it doesn't, you have a different problem to find :)
