Hi.
I’ve been searching this for awhile and can’t find a fix so hopefully you guys can get help me

About a month ago the blower on my 1997 disco v8 stopped working, when it stopped I turned it off and back on and it worked again. Did that a couple of times in a row while driving and then stopped completely. It doesn’t work on any of the settings and the light on the a/c button won’t turn on either.

I checked the fuses and the relay in the drivers footwell and can feel it click. Also tested the blower on a battery and it works. I’ve taken the slider switch apart and cleaned it twice and tested the continuity and as far as I can tell it’s working as it should. When I tested the power to slide switch, with it in any of the on positions I was getting power to all 5 wires which from my understanding of it I shouldn’t.
I think the odd time I could smell a slight burning smell but not sure if I was imagining it haha

Also at the same time my rear electric windows started playing up. They don’tt work when I start the disco but start working inside a minute of turning it on and will continue to work till I turn it off. Not sure if it’s related or a separate issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I live in Australia and it’s 35 degrees here at the moment.
Cheers
Graeme

Hi, there is a resistor unit in the heater blower circuit that has been known to fail, although usually it just leaves you with one speed, fast, worth a check so it can be found screwed to the left side of the heater box after removing the glovebox and with the aid of a torch u should see it.
As u know without the blower running the a/c won't function, therefore you will have to get the blower functioning normally and the a/c may with any luck work as it should.

As a comparison, in my part of the world it's 6c and heavy rain, but still use the a/c with the heater to remove an dampness inside.

Thanks discool.
I knew about the resistor but as you said it normally gives full speed so I had ruled that out as a cause. Probably a rookie error haha.
Do you know how to test the resistor?

Oh I also forgot to mention that when I was working on it and had the blower disconnected from the circuit to test it, that a/c came on for 20 seconds as i heard the fan on the a/c radiator turn on and the light on the a/c button came on aswell.

I’m not sure if I moved a wire or something as I’ve shaken the wires and haven’t had it happen again. Is there an earth down there somewhere that I could check?

Answer to post #3 yes I do know how to test the resistor pack, I'd use my Meter to check continuity and if I found an open circuit I'd throw the unit away and fit a new one, all standard stuff as u know.

In reply to this post what was you thinking of testing the blower circuit with the ignition switch turned on and the a/c switched on but at least you have the will a/c function ok... if and when u have found from what u say a wiring issue, what ever that will be a live supply or earth, only u will find that with your multi meter but u should have at least a 12v supply at the slider switch.
One thing in your favour is you have nice weather for it. :)
