97 disco 5 door headlight problem

just bought my dads 97 discovery 300tdi
just had the pleasure of changing a brake light bulb. only took couiple of hours!!
now my headlights are turning themselves on and off, pulled up behind a car during the day and noticed they were on, went to turen them off and they were already off! but the actual lights were on, they wereon dipped beem, after a few minutes they turned themselves off again.
i have not touched anything to do with the front headlights, when changing the brake light i had to completely remoive the light cluster but i kept the wiring connected when i did this, only thing i can think is the bulb i put in was'nt a double filament if that could even have anything to do with the headlights.
any ideas?

Iv had this on a old vauxhall before and it turned out to be wrong brake light bulb causing the problem, so when the brake lights came on the headlights would also.

You will definitely get more help if you introduce yourself.

have noticed it has stopped for now,i know there are some tapped up wires which were for spot lights and it was raining when i had the rear light cluster out. will get a double filament bulb anyway and #endure another 2 hours of stress and pain.
