92 vogue cutting out

hi all and a happy new year!

Im having some issues with my 92 v8, she'll start and run fine, but then after a short while the engine will cut out while the engine is under load. after this she WILL NOT start again, until after 15/20 mins or so then she'll start again fine but cut out shortly afterwards in the same situation.
When you re-start her, if you press the throttle, the enging struggles and very nearly stalls, and will only resume normal tick-over speed if you let your foot off the pedal.

Anyone got any ideas or had a similar problem?

Not on a '92 as far as I know.

fuel pressure, probably failing pump.

if its igntition then could be the amp getting too hot but sounds like fuel to me.

Let us know what youve tried if anything.

Fuel/CTS/amp could all be suspects ............ Oh it's like cluedo

Start with the cheapest option,

CTS(coolant temp sensor) is only about £8. If this has gone it doesn't let the engine know it's getting hot so chucks fuel at it like it was cold etc.

Aye the non genuine are usually crud alright. I've used this part however on my 3.9 with no probs and it solved my woes.

You could opt for the LR part to make sure it's genuine all the way

Another possible thing could be a split in the hose from the air mass meter to the plenum chamber which makes it run rich when cold, which allows it to run ok , but when the engine gets upto temp. then its too rich and causes stalling .

Or maybe I mean too lean !! Any way check the hose !

could you expand on that mate?

no way of really checking without removing the inlet manifold, but i have had the problems you describe quite a few times before, and after trying the basics it has come down to the camshaft being worn on one or two lobes. please try all other possibilities first, as other members have described, but if all else fails, i would be going to the camshaft. if it is then a new timing chain and water pump replacement is worth doing at the same time.

all sorted, turned out to be a Coolant temp sensor, think it was £35 +vat from landrover. Thanks to Stuart from armson for having a gander and hooking her up to the diagnostic gear. Also put on a shiny new dizzy cap and rotor arm and now she purrs like a pussy cat!

yer, seems like a nice chap too, felt sorry for him, he was meant to come to mine at lunch-time after seeing a chap in doncaster, but got stuck in scotland the night before and didnt get to me till 7.30pm and still had to go to donny!

did he fix it ok? yeah he is busy atm and has a bad back too

He didn't have the bits coz he was stuck up north, and didn't have time to go home to get em, but he gave me the part numbers that I needed and hooked her up to the diagnostic gear... Only fault was the temp sensor! I was amazed!
