90 wipers get stuck half way up and start clicking

my 90's front wipers get stuck half way up the windscreen and a loud clicking starts, the only way to get the wipers to move is to push them up where by they return back to the start of the cycle but the issue then starts again. A novice to all this so any tips would be appreciated.

Its a 1989 90 19j

it's probably going to be either the rack (item 5 below) that's slipping, or the motor and gear slipping.

you will probably need to get the crash pad off to have a look!

Is the clicking coming from the wiper arm boxes or from around the passenger footwell?

The noise sounds like its coming from the arm on the passenger side, not the footwell.

Are both wiper arms stoping or just the one?

Both arms are stopping

that's why i thought it might have been the rack or motor

If both arms stop together it does sound a bit like the cam in the motor is slipping. I had to replace mine last year but the whole motor units are quite cheap
