90 td5 as my everyday car ? Am I crazy?

Everytime I mention it to someone they look at me as if I've just murdered someone it's quite funny to be honest with the reaction you get. I've seen a td5 1999 silver hard top with the led light conversion and two folding seats in the back with 136000 with a full folder of history recent not with no advisories and a oil and pump change in April. For 6500 does that sound reasonable.

That's it but comes without the roof rack.

Something is only worth what your willing to pay. If you like it and you are willing to pay that then its worth it.

My Td5 does upwards of 1000miles a month, no problems. I did have a d40 but sold due to i never used it, always took the landy.
Any vehicle you buy can have problems, maybe not the most comfortable but the saying you make a house a home applies as there is so much you can do to a defender from remaps to sound proofing and when your done its your own and noone else has one the same.

you will be surprised

as soon as "landrover" is put in a parts name the price triples

if you buy one, i suggest you initially give it a good going over and getting its inevitable problems sorted, then blowing money on fancy stuff

I do 1,000 miles per month in my 2005 TD5 110 CSW for my business (domestic appliance repairs) and absolutely love driving it.

Before buying the Defender last year l had a Transit Connect van. The Defender has been reliable, l've spent money on it but only to make it look better (new wheels, side steps, bodywork, new grille etc)
I can't imagine going back to a van.

At the minute I've got a 59 plate be golf 1.6tdi blue motion golf so it's going to be more Fun than that !!!

i'd be concerned about reliability since you say you aren't a diy spanner winker.

they are great for handy people.. but for the avg person.. i dunno. garage bills mightn't be fun.

it is a 15 yo vehicle you are looking at. even vags require lots of work at that age.

if you are wanting to get your hands dirty.. buy tools and all that.. then go for it

Well, nothing wrong with the Golf (l just sold our 2012 Polo as the missus wanted a Land Rover, so now she has a 300tdi 90!)

You will need to re calibrate your driving style, for instance 65mph is the ideal motorway cruising speed, but you soon learn to sit back and let the world go by in their fast depreciating tin boxes.
A Defender also takes any aggression you might have out of your driving, and also you tend to get respect from other road users.

l have always been into cars. My other car now is a BMW Z3 3.0 M Sport. Before that l had a Lotus Elise S2, a Ferrari Mondial t, a Porsche 928 S4, and a 1932 Standard Little Nine, in that order.

And now l drive a Defender. So that must say something. The Defender is great fun to drive slowly. The other cars l could never get anywhere near their limits on the road. Well, except the Standard Little Nine...it only had 23bhp lol
The Z3 never comes out of the garage.

I tried the TDCi and didn't like it.
I don't like Ford diesels. They tend to have unfixable running issues and driving characteristics such as some people have complained that the 2.2 kangaroos at low RPM.

I had numerous running issues with my Ford Transit Connect tdci which seemed to be unfixable "no fault codes stored Sir"

I had a 08 1.8tdci focus before this and that was a bag of ****e!!! Is the td5 the best for motorway driving with abut of fun at the weekends then.

Nothing wrong with 300tdi on motorway as long as you have decent ear defenders. I personally rate the td5 but may be a bit bias, but have had all models and honestly think td5 best all rounder.

Sounds promising up to now I might just be driving a td5 daily by the weekend

If wonga allows, remap. Once the initial wahoo wears off it does give you better fuel economy too. Prob best thing on the long list I've done to mine. FUN [emoji2]

You might find in a years time prices have gone up with the production of Defenders stopping.
I would go for it. Live the dream. how knows what tomorrow may bring.

it's not like modern motors where reliability increases as you buy newer.

it's all down to maintenance and repair.

also i need an estate and was thinking of getting a 1.8tdci.. perhaps I shouldn't!
