Hi all,
I'm in serious need of a new rear door as my current one is completely falling apart.

Found the following on ebay:
Land Rover 90 110 Defender Back REAR DOOR *BRAND NEW*
£124.99 plus £8.20 delivery

Land Rover 90 110 Defender Back REAR DOOR *BRAND NEW* on eBay (end time 10-Mar-11 11:07:15 GMT)

As the advert states it does need a hole drilling for the lock.
Just wondering if anyone has used these before?
And would I be best spraying / painting it myself (epsom green) or getting it done professionally? I've been told getting it done would cost me around £80-£90. In my oppinion thats too much and would be a hell of a lot cheaper spraying it myself.

Thanks:)

its a series door can be made to fit but you could get proper one for similar money

Thanks James.
When you say proper, do you mean a genuine one?
Been trying to find a decent genuine one but most used ones on sale are in a terrible state.

A new genuine door would cost well over £200:mad:

no didnt mean genuine ,but pattern doors ive bought been allright as long as painted well that wasnt genuine lr as they come black, also 3 x hole for hinges

How about this one

I rang them a few months ago and nearly bought one, they also do one without the rear holes for the spare wheel. But I ended up buying from a local supplier so that I could collect instead.

I thought 'safari' was just the name given to the rear doors that are hinged at the side, as opposed to a panel that hinges downwards.

May be horribly wrong on that:confused:

I think most pattern doors will suffer with holes not quite lining up, or holes that arent drilled. I decided to buy a genuine one for a straight forward fit:)

All depends on your budget obviously. But having spent a fortune on a new chassis, new bulkhead, new suspension etc, I didnt want the stress that comes with fitting a misaligned door.

Be worth try the scrap yards. I've just bought a second hand one for £65 and is in good condition. Paying £130 for the door to be sprayed and along the the whole rear section of my defender 90.

Thanks for the reply's all; much appreciated as usual!
I've been offered one from a (very generous) fellow landyzone member; picking it up this Saturday:)

Will update on how i get on with it.

I bought my replacement rear door from paddocks with heated screen fitted.

It lined up perfectly i did replace all of the hinges as well with shinny stainless bolts. Then i sprayed it myself, I also drilled a couple of holes in the frame and sprayed with waxoyl and then basically sprayed the inside of the door with waxoyl as well. Trying my best to keep the rust away.

2 Years later it still looks like new

Did you spray waxoil on the frame and inside the actual frame?

Duh why would i drill holes if i wasnt gonna use them to spray waxoyl in ???
Ahh i know to let the rust flakes out :D.

I like a nice healthy coating of waxoyl on steel pannels, chassis and door frames.

lol:caked:

I'm a waxoyl virgin I'm afraid; can I just get a aerosol can of ebay and use that to do the same?

thtas weird that wasnt the link i was suppose to post,

Yeah that type of starter kit should do well enough, I prefer the compressor and the schultz gun or paraffin gun. Theres the great debate what to mix the waxoyl with i use to use diesel but i am gonna try mixing it with thinners
