A while back, I had bit of bother with my 90 who is still, sadly parked on the drive, but after the worlds worst/best act of procrastination, I once again have oil on my hands.
The problem was, I think, related to either the transfer or main gear box - LT77/LT230.
After hearing a quick 'brrrr' when driving, I found that the high/low lever was free to move back and forth, even though it would engage both gears.
Then, the main gearbox wouldn't engage/disengage unless the high/low was in neutral.
It sounded like something - a spring I was hoping - had broken and got churned up in the mesh. I've drained the boxes but only clean oils emerged.
What is it that keeps the high/low lever in place when engaged as I'm sure this is the root cause? Unless someone may know or speculate otherwise!
