Its just started tipping it down so I've packed it in for the day, but the last thing I was doing was staring at the 19mm but that attaches the front suspension to the Axle....

It turns, along with the shock, go I gently gripped the shock with a big wrench and tried again, and the whole lot still turns..

So how tight can i grip the shock?
Any other ideas how to get this nut turning?

Cheers

if you're changing the shocks it doesnt matter what you do to it. grip it tight and give it some whale untill it either comes undone or the shaft shears

Yeah its a keeper at the moment so I don't want to damage it too much, its rusty as hell too but its not scheduled for a change yet.

those 1/2" drive strap type oil filter removal tools are great for holding shocks ;)

Good call, I have one back at my place somewhere .. I'll bring that over and huge it a try. I'd love to apply some heat but I doubt the bushes would like that.

Cheers guys.

Big steelsons wedged or held and undo. Give the thread a good dose of wd40 I usually have the steelsons at the bottom of the shock save marking it much

They used to be £12 ea

We always say when you buy a coiler motor second hand put £500 away to one side to sort the suspension bushes and all that gaff to make it decent on road before even thinking about off road mods. Rebushed and new std shocks and all new ball joints make it nice to drive and no hassle for Mr MOT man

£100 shocks
£80 springs,
£80 balljoints and new arms,
£50 bushes,
£30 A Frame,
£100 wheel bearings seals,
£100 - £120 brake disks n pads

If you can do the work yourself well worth it! you will have a decent motor for a couple of weekends work and a few ££
