Hi,

New to this forum. I've had few LRs, from early 110 to ex G4 challenge and the odd Disco. The reason for the post is I've come across a new 'feature' and I'm looking for ideas!

When on a slope my 90 pickup chugs forward even with the engine off and in first gear. The handbrake doesn't work, but I've never had a defender that didn't hold even on a steep slope in first. This is a standard pick up with a 300tdi engine. The vehicle just chugs forward a foot, then stops, then another foot and so on. Its no use to me at the minute as I live on a hillside.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Was gonna suggest low compression, but if he's not fixed a handbrake ιts unlikely he's gonna fix that lol
 
Nobody suggesting bricks then?


Fix the handbrake before you kill someone.....or get on youve been framed.
 
as a precaution you when parked on a hill you should always park it on full lock with the wheel against the kerb that way if the h/brake fails its not going to go anywhere or even it does it will only go a few feet in a cresant

isnt that basic road knowledge though or was it just my driving instructor who taught me that ??

i think its just the weight of the vehicle, you would have running problems if you had low compresion etc, burning oil and hard to start etc

Thanks David. I don't drive it much on the road, not got the fields edged with kerbs :). I will fix the hb and see how we go.

Also recommended in the Driving Standards Agency blurb for people taking their tests. So it should be common knowledge, you'd think.
