Don't know if this is the right place, I have started to build an ARLC spec trials vehicle. Its a long slow, and at time painful business! so far I have the chassis, engine and gearbox, along with roll cage, in the last weeks I have made up the frame for the drivers seat and mounted the pedals and steering column. I will add a few pic on here soon as to the most up to date position of the build, I have started to keep a web site log with pics of the build, mainly for my own interest, but if anyone else is interested the web address is www.ccv-build.webs.com. I am sure there are some experts put there who can offer some advice and comments, all appreciated....
Cheers

looking good, 1 thing i have noticed straight away is the "sills" you dont hav much there behind front wheels to deter trees rocks etc so you may get wedged dependign what course etc your on, may be woth wedling to the outside of that to make them longer if that makes any sense, keep us updated though, iv given up on my 80" in pretty much same stage your at with a new project in the pipe line :)

Hi Muddy Duck,

I like it, very neat makes my old battered leafer look pants!! Good to catch up with you last weekend. I had to shoot to bolt some more bits on my mota!.

Wouldn't worry too much about the sills look correct to me! Some cleaver person put them on with an angle at the front and was forever getting caught on trees and bits. until they made them flush like yours!!

Can't wait to be out there with mine competing against you Leafer vs coiler!! Keep up the good work. I'm trying to bust my ass to get mine finished for Feb awdc event at roundhill however more likley it will be first outing at the nats!!! Ow Errr so will be frantically repairing it that weekend! Mine is no oil painting but I guess if it was too shiny I'd avoid getting too close to the trees!!!

So far salisbury rear axle has been cleaned up bearings and brakes sorted out. Bolted up just adding 1 ton rear spring hangers. Propshaft nees shortening. Front axle RRC will be de bracketed and hopefully bolted up in the next couple of weeks. Kam front HD shafts are here and trying to source an 18mm 4 pin centre and gearset for a p38 4 pin carrier I have with my front 4.75 ashcroft CWP. Kam are out of stock until Feb!

CVan't wait I really really wanna give Team Recovery a go next year just gotta build build and build some more between the lovley weather we're having!!

ATB

Thanks all for your comments so far, Hi Jai, good to catch up at the weekend. I guess I prob will be a little nervous till I smack that first tree! driving at Roundhill especially was what made me decide to mount the gearbox cooler behind the seats rather than run it down one side of the rear....could just see me back into a tree and snap that! I am sure yours wont be pants, your way more advanced than me with the likes of your axles....mine are just standard.

Just wish there was one extra day a week so I could get it moved on quicker, just want to be driving it now! Still loads getting at the moment. Once I have new rear prop and can arrange gearbox mounts, I will drag it out in the open and take some pics of it. Hope by early new year to have some ali sheeting for the rear panels. My Dad has an old caravan in his garden that's not moved for best part of 20 years, so chassis knackered just needs breaking down, so a trip to Norfolk needed to scrap it and nick all the ali sheeting off it!

Hi Rob,

Ali sheeting I got a really good deal from a place in Berko apparently Tim (Red racer) he also goes there well the forman know him anyhow. I got a sheet of 8x4 minus a foot strip so a measured sheet of 1.2mm x 8x3 which he kindly cut into a few bits for me for less than £20 which I thought was superb. I guess it depends what he has used already tho.

Like you No time at all! I want to be out there driving it about in the rain not working under it!!

Anyway I should be out there now but its ****ing down and I just got in from work so another evening lost. Keep going you will get there I still have issues with my front cage mounts and bodywork that needs to be junked so I would say your much furthur on in the build than mine. Just Can't wait to get out there competing!!

I still have to build/buy a trailer and do me test!! So plenty to do no money or time which I suspect is where many people in the same boat at the moment. So if we just keep on some progress is still progress! Some point next year we should be competing and it'll be worth every bit of rain and mud running down your back while attaching various parts!

Catch you Soon

P.s. We still hold a pub meet first Wednesday of the month in Dunstable Kinda Landyzone unnoficial meet up chat about LR's. Everyone is welcome. If I'm honest I came up Sunday to get a bit more enthusiasm for my mota and it was well worth it!

Jai, I will try to get to one of those pub meets in the near future. The Ali sheeting you mentioned in your earlier post is very cheap! With regards to trailers, the worlds your oyster, just depends how much you want to pay, I grabbed mine for just under £500, it isn't pretty to look at but does tow brilliantly. Although if I can I would like to get my hands on an Ifor or Brian James flat bed, still wheels under he deck as I have the width restriction issue as the beaver tail is OK, but total flat bed would make it more usable in my humble opinion.but they go for a fortune! Looking forward to a cold weekend in the garage, Radiator frame and mounting is the next job, I have a 300 TDI rad that needs help, some fool has put a grinder through the bottom 2 rails, so gonna crimp em and seal em up with some kinda gluppy stuff, I now have a couple of VW electric fans as there is not room for the orig fan.the frame for the rad needs reducing (its from a V8 Disco so way to wide) and mounting as well.

A Small update, have tried fitting a short 16" inch prop, perfect length, but when I jacked the car up the UJ's couldnt handle the angle of the drop, so now acquiring one with much longer yokes (sort of HGV based). Gearbox and T Box now mounted on bespoke mounting brackets (well the old ones with a lot of adjustment!) So am now working on the passenger side, seat mounts, and footwell.

Hey Muddy Duck,

hows your trialer coming along????

Uphill struggle like mine I guess, Should have my rebuilt 3.5 running next weekend. Bit of tidying up with the cage and rear suspension mounts welding and it could be out there getting muddy!!

Hi Jai

Been a very quiet year offroad wise for me, but now back on the case, just spent the weekend on it and need to update my webiste. I havent had a chance to do anything since Feb! so the status at the moment is, rad mounted, battery tray fabricated and mounted, fuel tank finished, just needs some security straps. Started at the weekend to cut up a old rear tub and make bits of it fit. next job is a long shopping list for oil cooler pipes, fuel lines and brake pipes. Sounds like you are still moving on with yours though. PS still got that trailer if your interested...no worries if not, I will stick it on an auction site soon.
Cheers

Time money and weather has been against me so its getting done slowly.

engine in plumbed up oil pressure is up so a bit of wiring for brake, running lights ignition etc plus a battery it should fire up. Mounted up ns wing all bolted ready to.come off and paint. Os wing needs to.be mounted and the headertank mounted to it.

Still got to.sort the exhaust, p clip everything up nice, mesh the back, fix rear spring hangers bumper fit 10 inch front brakes overhaul hubs and plenty of odds n sods. hopefully try and get to the December trial if only for Andy to give me a list to get done.
Failing that early next year. Defo for the nationals.

Would love the trailer but money is tight.wedding honeymoon and a trialled has swallowed up all my money for a while.
