just a quick question
im being offerd a s3 gearbox out of a 6cyl vehicle
i want to put it in my ambulance but that has the j19 4cyl engine
now i know the bell housing is diffrent and thats not a proplem as i have the old box with the correct bell housing

all i need to know is the gearbox its self gonna be the same ?

can i just change it and fit it ? or were the 6cyl boxs bigger in some way ?

come on guys

33 of you have had a read and nobody has given even a yes or no type answer

please let me know before i buy it

The parts list has a different number for the bellhousing and shows some minor differences in the selector mechanism but the rest of it looks the same as the 2 1/4. Does this help?

if you cant get it to fit then it aint much good to me lol

its cool i probally couldnt afford it properly anyway

Hello everyone, I've put the recon 6 cylinder box on, and swapped the bellhousing over, but I'm still waiting for the rear mainshaft gear, however, when selecting first and second it doesn't seem to clunk in as much as third and fourth, and I'm just wondering if that will sort itself out when I've torqued up that castle nut on the end once I've got the gear on, or if something is wrong, or maybe it's completely normal, I've never experienced a decent Landy gearbox before. Thanks.

so far as I understand the ratios on the 6cyl bre slightly different and the 6cyl 1ton has different transfer box ratios....dont suppose that makes alot of difference if you've managed to get past the bell housing issues......Have you got the box and engine in the chassis yet? I thought that the box mounts on the 6 cyl were further back which would push the engine forwards....?

Cheers Pobby, I've got it in the chassis, box is the same, it's been reconned with normal ratio internals, everything other than the bellhousing is exactly the same, I'm going to take it back out one last time before I fill it with oil, just to check everything's alright, then put it in and leave it in, because I've done it all alone so far and my arms are ferkin knackered.

must be the mounts on the 6 cyl chassis in a different place then.....which would account for different bulkhead........got 2 6cyl boxes on flea bay at the mo in Glos

why take it out again ??
just get underneath and slid in the intermedeat gear and transfer sump pan and your done
that box is to big and heavy to keep lifting it in and out

I'm taking it out again because I've put that gear in now, but it still doesn't clink into third and forth properly,(not first and second like I said earlier) so I'm convinced I must've put something back wrong when I changed the bell housing over. Beastie, £200! I got my recon for £77, the insides are spanking! If you have any luck then let me know, I've got a 6 cylinder bell housing here, mint condish, new bearings etc.:D

grrrrr dont remind me how good that box is
i wanted it
next time im putting a warning on here so nobody bids against me
