Yup i used to repo cars we could not just take them from where ever they were parked and had to have relevant paperwork signed by person who had it on finance. Plus is was purchased from a dealer so they would of cleared any outstanding HP on it.

This was a demonstrator car only been owned by listers land rover ,

As above, Andy, what security was in place at the time of the theft - Clutch Claw (pedal lock), Disklok (full coverage steering lock) etc? I guess you had it for such a short time that you probably didn't even get the chance to address this.

Do be careful about throwing accusations about unless you have very solid grounds for making them. I understand your rage though

Thats quite a long time to own a demonstrator, was yours a 2.4tdci or one of the early 2.2s?

Usually, they try and have a new one for the current registration and the defenders dont hang around on dealer forecourts.

Also, why would you steal a car from where it was sold from if you worked there....?

Car was 8 months old , 2.4 tdci, answer to last question £££££

I have been told today one of there customers had defender go 2 days after purchase , reordered another that went very soon after purchase aswell

Surely a fender of that age has transponder technology and to steal it that quickly and quietly you have to have a programmed key for the immobiliser and a fob for the alarm I SMELL A VERY LARGE RAT!

.....so fook all security in other words. A real shame Andy. Defenders get nicked all the time. If or when you get a replacement, get yourself a Clutch Claw and Disklok and use them every single time you leave the wagon. It might still get lifted (literally) anyway, but at least you will stand a chance of keeping it.

Also I am not new to land rovers , had several rangerovers and defenders over the last 25years all been new to 12 months old never had a problem till now

A new defender has adequate security and no need for the above if the owner is the only person in posession of the keys/remote!

The reason I asked what engine they had is because the 2.2 has been out since the beginning of the year, why would you want to demonstrate the older version?

Just sounds like it hasn't been a demonstrater all this time.

I have a 61 plate 2.4 90 in grey too I bought in april from a lr dealer and I'm the 3rd owner!

Some ppl buy them, thinkin it's going to be like a disco or freelander for comfort and everyday useability and 1 month down the line the novelty factor has worn off!!

Just keep it in mind that it might not have been in the dealers all the time....

Have you informed the police of this?

If three Land Rover's have gone missing within a week or so of being sold by the same dealer and they are all new and high value that would, to me, strongly suggest there is a bit of organised crime going on somewhere along the line.

Reputation means nothing. The above alone suggests that something is not right. Don't give up the fight, else it will happen to the next person too.

It seems that brand new BMWs are being started and nicked en masse at the moment. A major security weakness is being exploited. Electronic immobilisation is NOT bullet proof.

Thats horrible, I hope you get a positive result. I would definitely pursue the dealership, it sounds very convenient.

This story has convinced me to get one of those cheap trackers that you text and it gives you the position of the car. I'll hide it somewhere. But your story is shocking.

Definitely something not right here, a crooked service operative at a dealership can easily order spare keys and presumably sell them on for a premium price! The police need to take more interest in this for sure.

Not just new, major problems with being able to programme key blanks in cars from 2007 - 2011 with a reprogammer available from ebay at around £300.
