53 PLATE 5 DOOR ALARM PROBLEM

Good morning folks
Help needed,my neighbour has a 53 plate disco diesel last night the alarm went off and she was unable to turn it off with the key fob,
Quite upset she asked me to have a look ,I unlocked the doors with the fob (alarm still sounding ) turned the ignition on and the alarm stopped .
Is this normal ?
At the moment the battery is disconnected as she did not want the alarm going off in the middle of the night
The question is can we disable the alarm but still lock, un- lock and start the car.
Is there a fuse we can pull or is that just wish full thinking?

Hi. That's possible only with dedicated tester you can't fix this by removing a fuse, eventually only the horn relay if the alarm is set only on horns and not on BBUS or alarm sounder....though if the fob unlocked the doors and the alarm didnt stop it's a serious problem with the BCU cos that's not normal at all, first of all are you sure it was the alarm not only a continuous horn sound?

I had what I thought was the alarm going off in the middle of the night bu,t if it's continuous as Ferry said, it will be a stuck horn button on the steering wheel. (Realized this when I fully woke up!)

The horn buttons on the D2 steering wheel are a known point of weakness, particularly as they get older and the plastic deteriorates.
Replacement buttons are available on the bay, they are claimed to have been improved and strengthened, but for all that they are still a bit pricey for what they are. I replaced my horn buttons a few years ago and had no trouble since.
