Its coming up to service time again, and I always borrow my mates expensive transmission filler pump.
This year I thought I,d get one of my own, till I saw how much they were !.
A lttle bit of searching showed that a lot of folk use garden sprayers to great effect.
So, after a little digging, I found a 5lt fence panel sprayer at Argos for £ 9.99, which I got.
I gave it a test run with some mtf 94, which it did pump, but it was very slow.
I stripped the whole thing down and realised that the tubing and trigger were a very small bore, so had a measure up and a rummage round the garage, and came up with a plan.
The molded " spigot " that comes out of the container is exactly 10mm, as is the " nut " that tightens onto it.
I cut a length of 10mm " speedifit " tube that I pushed into this hole till it hit the bottom and stuck out the top about an inch. I then cut a washer out of some 10mm I/D clear hose about 6mm in length, and slid this over the speedifit pipe till it sat ontop of the " spigot " and finally tightened the green " nut " down. ( this crushes the clear 6mm washer and makes a good seal ).
I got a 10mm mini ball valve from Screwfix for £ 5.00 and into one end i put a 50mm length of 10mm copper tube, and in the other I put a bit of 10mm copper that I had set a bend on.
I simply then atached both of these to a lenght of 10mm I/D tube and jubilee clipped them on.
Put a litre and a half in, pumped it 20 times, turned on the lever and it pumped a litre in about a minite.
The flow can be reduced by closing the lever a bit.
You cant over pump it as it still has the pressure relief valve.
Del.
