hi chaps
having read the daily papers and listened to the news "oh joy"
up to £5000 to tax a 4x4 what!!! i may have got this totaly wrong but i think
the futt buckers in parliament have got this wrong,I am to presume that we still have freedom of speech and choice in this ever decreesing isle or is it only as long as you pay extortionate tax and take it up the chuff.
I dont want to go off on one!! any thoughts from any one else or am i still totaly wrong, from an ex squadie and tax payer:confused:

yer i think they are going to put something like that into effect. its the easy way out for them to cut emmisions. instead of targeting industry. namely sea freight and airlines which put huge amounts into the atmosphere, or china and other eastern countries which are just plain dirty, they target working class folk like ourselves. its all well and good saying they want the chelsea tractors off school runs but people who buy X5's, chayenne's brand new range rovers etc will still pay the tax because they can afford to. a £5000/yr tax is 3x what my 90 cost me! i cant afford to pay it...

...do you think cars 25yrs and over will still be kept as tax exempt? i only have 3 years left.

G

hi griffdowg
so your 90 is 22 years old just think how much revenue your landy has
accumulated, fuel, tax, spares all vat app, over its working life.the way i see it is if you buy second hand the depreciation factor is all tax any way.
ok they may rise it slightly but they should leave it affordable for all,I tow
a caravan and has any one bothered to think that the leisure industry in this country is a multi million pound business.
no 4x4,s no large caravans thats another industry that will suffer some people may think "good keep caravans off the road" but i hope you get my drift it will be a massive knock on effect.
cheers take care kid;)

It isn't going to ease the "Problem" by hiking up taxes. It's the Chairmen of airlines and Shipping Magnates etc that throw vulgar amounts of money at political parties so the govt aren't likely to kick these people in the knackers are they ?, thats biting the hand that feeds you.
Oops I've been all political.

Regards WP.

yer, thats what i was saying. they target us because were easy. at the end of the day, they could charge £2/L on fuel. but i still have to travel to see my folks and my girlfriend on weekends. im not going to just stop driving. it will just be more expensive for me. so how does this lessen my carbon footprint?

they seriously need to tackle industry and countries who are big polluters.

ffs the US hasnt even signed kyoto, their the worst of all. and their going to f"£^k us over first because we take it lying down and the chelsea tractors give us a bad name anyway.

doomed i tell thee, doomed!!

hopefully they wont change the law and in 3 years i can pay nowt... thats if they dont get tighter with carbon emmision testing in which case my landy will never pass it mot :(

G

I might be wrong but I don't think the age thing for road tax was rolling, it was set at 25 years old in what ever year they brought it in and stayed at whatever year it was 1974 or somewhere, so anything after that age you have to pay road tax on regardless of wether it's over 25 years old. I think.

awww bollox :(

i dont know much about it, i just thought it was 25years rolling. well then im screwed from all angles :(

any piggies here want to verify the law?

G

Yes, they scrapped it, so the date is still the same as it was years ago. No luck.

Will this tax increase be on new vehicles only?

The Conservatives introduced the 25 year classic car tax excemption with the idea that it was to be rolling. Good old scotsman Gordon Brown then fixed the excemption at 01/01/1973, so only vehicles build before this date are road fund licence exempt and not when they become 25 years old. Thieving Bastard.

hiya lads i looked into this a while back and just think they are targeting 4x4's for emmisions??? bull****, what about the jags, bms, mercs? my jag is a 4.0 petrol yet the disco is a 2.5tdi? which one creates more emiisions????
i also read a roumour that its gonna be 3.0 and over. and that in london you ahve to buy a permit to park your 4x4 in the st??? what is the tax disc for??? and the tax we pay in fuel???? we dont even see anythink for that as it is never mind wanting to charge 2k just to tax the bastard.
spain i think for me a few years, this country gets worse by the day!

here we go again, everyone has heard a rumour ffs why dont yer just wait until the govt decides what its going to do. until then here are a few facts;

1) they cant categorise a 1 litre fiat panda the same as a 4.6 litre rangerover
2) they will do what they like no matter how much you moan
3) spain/france etc all have their own rules the same as the uk
4) nothing has been decided yet and even when it is, they still have to go through the motions
5)this is not a political forum so stop whining about politics
