Hi,

I've recently purchased a 2003 discovery 2 and its already haf the air to coil conversion complete with a 2" lift installed.

I'd like to increase the lift from 2" to 4" but i'm struggling to source any +5 shocks is it a case you need to retro fit D1 shocks on to a D2 or do they not manufacture +5 shocks for a D2? I appreciate this might be a nooby question.

Thanks.

D2 doesn't lend itself to big lifts without changing a lot more than just shocks and springs ... Some try to but when they don't do it correctly they generally have real issues actually running reliably and/or safely.

OTOH a lot of people use the axles etc in racing 'cos they're wider track, arguably easier to mend and work on. Similarly the trailing arm setups are pretty good, but you effectively need to junk the rest of the suspension and re-build from scratch, then you can put whatever shocks you want on, but it ain't cheap or easy without a decent workshop and some skill.

Get larger diameter tyres and cut the arches is a simpler method ...and will give way better results, especially if you remap the TD5 ecu .. but then you might need to beef the Half shafts, diffs, props etc ... ;)

Thank you all for your responses its certainly given me something to think about.

The initial requirement for the 4inch lift was to accommodate some 33" wheels, without the need to butcher the arches but perhaps I'll need to rethink my strategy.

Thanks!

You might be surprised. Do you have the 33's already? Just fit them and check where they touch. The tyres in my '90 picture are 235 85's, about 32", which fitted my Disco 1 with only a slight cut in the front and rear arches, a 'Camel cut'. I'd guess that with a +2" lift a D2 could probably accommodate 33's with a cut to the front bumper area and the rear arch both sides, slightly. PS, I might be wrong on this though ... ;)

The defender has different ratio in the transfer box and different fuel map to handle such tyres, itțs also lighter, the D2 will be completely mixed up with them which is clearely visible only with additional coolant temp and EGT gauges... a D2 needs a addapted remap to work well with such tyres which doesnt fix the ABS issues though
