Hi, I had the 4 Amigo lights come on 10 days ago on my Discovery 2 facelift 53 reg.

I have purchased a Hawkeye, and the fault is diagnosed as 4046 front LH ABS sensor air gap to large (or something like that)
I reset the faults, when I started the car, just the ABS light was on, but as soon as I moved off the other three came back on immediately. I haven't yet re-scanned the codes to see if it's the same.

There doesn't appear to be any play, movement or roughness in the wheel bearing/hub... so maybe it's just the sensor or wiring that's faulty.

I've replaced a couple of ABS sensors on my Chrysler voyager over the past few years, just used a relatively cheap replacement part off ebay, which have worked fine.

I'll take a look at this later, but is it quite common for just the sensors to fail on the discovery ?

Thanks

for faulty sensor the code is usually circuit or signal related not about air gap, you can try to remove the o-ring and put the sensor back without it, that might prolonge a bit things but IMO the hub is on it's way out, it's not necessary to feel play in the bearing for tnat, it's enough for the reluctor ring to have play cos the system is very sensitive

OK thanks for the info. I'll re-scan it tonight and get the exact codes and details. My first thought was to just re-set it and if it stayed away, all well and good.... if not then as I have the Hawkeye I can look in more detail. It came straight back on as soon as I drove it, so it should be easy enough to pinpoint.

If it is the hub, what's a decent make to use ? I know OE parts are probably the best, but usually cost prohibitive.. I'm not after a £20 Chinese Ebay special, but I usually try and get a reputable quality part at reasonable price.

It seems that these are a common failure item, so what's everyone else using ?

I've been using the mid range hubs from craddocks, but shop around. Cheap ones will be exctly that. Lack of play in the hub doesn't always mean that replacement isn't necesssary. Had a teaser the other day with a hub being fine but a tooth missing from ABS ring. Also speed readings from the hubs may indicate nothing wrong, but cornering may throw up the warning lamps.

OK so I think I have found the problem :) Fault code is 4066 Sensor front left side, DC failure, broken wire sensor impedance to high/low, + intermittent sensor output during driving, broken wire.

Basically with the vehicle stopped, the standing DC voltage on the front LH sensor is 1.1-1.2v whilst on the others it's around 2.5V also the speed reading is flickering at 0-2km/h when stationary. When I start to drive in 1st gear, the 3 good ones read correctly, but the front LH sits at 0km/h until I get some speed up, it then jumps to 15-20km/h

Looks like the sensor itself is faulty

Thx

Mat

New hub. Comes with sensor all lined up and ready to go. I bought cheap as poss through a decent website. I did have one fail within a year, but because of where I bought it they exchanged it for free.
(Purchased June 2013, exchanged Jan 2014 fine since. That was JGS4x4)

Need a hub

I also had the same 4 amigos on 3 weeks ago, the diagnosis was a faulty shuttle valve, change this, now all light have gone, a cheap quick repair/Pete.

Mine was the other way round, would work till about 20mph then stop increasing at which point TC would kick in when it detected the imbalance. I replaced the sensor but it made no difference so ended up replacing the hub, problem solved.
