Hello. A little problem occured today, the rangey seemed to be missing under load. Not a great deal, seems like maybe 1 or2 cylinders. The judders along nicely still so it can't be much. Also its not all the time.

Any ideas as to what it could be..??

i would change plugs and leads first, i had an escort that did the same when accelerated checked loads of stuff and eventually found out it was leads breaking down under load!!!

Thanks for that. Was going to try the leads and plugs, just wondered if it could be anything more serious ( costly).

itl be plugs and leads(has a lead come off/loose?)to check 1st....just keep pulling a lead off and replacing it with engine running....if engine note changes then you know that lead/plug is ok.....replace and move on to the next....if you find one that makes no difference then youve the problem in your hand lol.....if non of the above makes any difference then its coil pack next to look at.....not that you will be able to see it as its right at the back of the engine by the bulkhead and youd need fingers like ET to get to it

Right then , got round to looking at this little problem properly today.
Changed the plugs and leads, still missing..

Pulled 1 lead off at a time and it appears to be not sparking on 2 cylinders. both of which go to the same coil pack , so can i assume that this coil pack will be the reason for my problems.???

more than likely, if you have a look at the coil pack you may seem damage to the iron bits, also check the connections are clean to the coil pack and leads and also the multiplug that is behind the drivers side head isnt corroded!! after that i would look at replacing coil pack!!

i have checked all connections etc. Will be ordering a new coil pack in the morning. Anyone know the best place to get 1.

Bought 2 coil packs today ,fitted and hey presto problem sorted.

Took me ages sat on the engine to get at them, who in their fight mind thought that was a good place to put them..

Thanks for the help.

nah, i get mine in, unless you have cumberland sausage hands!!! i would use a small socket set(either 10mm or 8mm cant remember) with a long extension!!

mind you i have had mine on a nd of a million time recently so i have become quite adept at getting at the arkward stuff!!

Small socket set and a 8mm long extention and 1 of those bendy knuckle things. Put a cushion in the engine an set there for a while.

i would get one of them fold up bench things and get a soft top on it, you will end up needing it after all the time you'll spend in the engine bay!!!

when i take the engine outa mine i get a stoll, raise the ramp to the correct height and undo all the bolts in relative comfort!!

in fact i'm thinking of putting the stereo controls on the underside as i spend more time there than in the drivers seat!!!! lol!!!
