Hi folks!

as the title says really, which 1?

looking at MY2000 on.

is there much difference in performance?
am i going to get more probs with the 4.0?

any advice is always, including the cheeky remarks, taken with full appreciation.

thanks,

Dave

They've both been bored to within an inch of their life its the stroke that's different so your just as likely to suffer terminal failure in both.

Perhaps the Westminster for rarity, personal choice really, I'd just get the one that was the better car.

As Data said, percentage wise the diesel is probably more reliable. Just be prepared for your great Grandad to 'Do You' in a drag race from the lights in his Austin 1100:D

this is the prob :)

i am finding more 4.0 that have been converted to LPG than 4.6's.

and i like the look of the interior on the westminster, but like the idea of a bit more grunt from the 4.6 lump. not much in it on paper. so not sure how much of a difference it will be.

4.6s should be more reliable - the blocks were apparently graded with the better ones being used for the 4.6s. Not that it really did much for their reliability - they're both prone to block and liner problems.

They are also more economical than the 4.0s. Or so I read.

Does mpg bother you? If so I'd go for the 4.0 on LPG, and the Westminsters are lovely.

Do not touch LPG unless it's a proper job!
Even then there a pain in the Arse!
Vaporisers etc, stepper motors on fuel delivery.

Personal choice here but I have heard that the 2.5dse with a chip fitted is as quick as the 4.0!
Buy the 4.6 vogue.
Now I am awaiting all the responses telling me I'm wrong!lol
I had a 98 dse manual with a power box fitted in it went like the clappers.
Lol

I agree:D

My previous DSE was fairly lively when provoked....

I had a reciept in the pack when I bought it from Janspeed saying Remap - £300 but this I never confirmed...but she would keep up with most off the lights if prodded.

I would go for the Westminster personnaly, as they are a good talking point (due to the limited edition.

According to a great book I got from Amazon a couple of months ago (Range Rover - The Second Generation by James Taylor) only 200 Westminsters were made with 150 of them being the 4.0 petrol model and 50 Diesels.

They all had Sat Nav with Traffic Master info, and a 17 speaker enhanced Entertainment System (the same as the Vogue but with 5 extra speakers - two in the rear doors, 2 surround speakers in the rear quarter panels and a 'Centre Fill' in the middle of the dash)

Thats the one I would go for....

Yep defo the Westminster....

You can just see the bump for the Centre Speaker on the Dash, the extra tweeters next to the door pulls on the rear doors, and just about see the rear surround speakers on either side of the boot....

Love the Green coloured burl too..!!!

think its worth the money? hoping he will still have it next week so i can go and see it.

There's a fella selling a Westminster on eBay, dark coloured one, looks nice Il see if I can find it, the green wood is real nice

I paid just a hair under 4k for my previous DSE nearly a year ago...

Considering it is one of 200, fairly unique with the Green Burl....

Aslong as the history stacks up, the buttons all work, the HEVAC works, the EAS works, no bells and warnings....reciepts match the condition of the vehicle....

Make sure it has gas in it when you drive it to check the running on LPG, switch to petrol too, to check that....

I am not to up on the HID conversion for the P38, but check that also....

Never buy a P38 with warnings no matter what the seller says....
