hi just brought my first range rover , a 1996 4.0ltr se . i brought it as a non runner which woz the crank shaft sensor , the car has been sitting a while and seems to run fairly rough (no rattles or knocks ) is there any usual probs any one can point me too?? exhaust is blowing a little .. and it has an oil leak , which is dripping on the exhaust and causeing a lot of smoke , is there any usual places i should look , one more thing wot mpg should i expect ,,, ??any advice and help would be very helpfull :confused: :confused:
 
A little more info would be helpful.

Rough running could be caused by many reasons:
Is the check engine light on?
Change plugs and leads.
Check for air leaks.
Check/change coolant temp sensor on intake manifold.
Check AFM
Check injectors
Check oxygen sensors
etc.


Probably the oil is coming from rocker cover gaskets - change them, fairly easy. The other alternative is the valley gasket - especially the ends. For this you need to take off the intake manifold. For step-by-step instructions refer to RAVE manuals.

What do you mean by exhaust blowing (I'm not native English speaker, so I just might not know/understand this expression)? Have you owned a V8 before? It should rumble a bit by nature.
