So, i've been researching disco 1's for when i get some money in summer. I was wondering what the difference between the 3 and 5 doors was - and not just the fact that one has more doors

I have read that the 3 doors are a pain to weld in places because you don't have the access like you would with the extra doors? - Is this much of a problem?

and is there any other advantages/disadvantages too the 3 doors? i've seen far more of them for sale than the 5 doors when looking.

Also, i would be looking at fitting leather upholstery - would this be an issue with the front seats? (which i imagine fold for rear access)

Any help or pointers would be helpful  - before the haters hate, i did search, couldn't find anything

Just buy a top spec one with leather? 3doors means to let people in the back you gotta jump out then in! personally i dont see point of a 3 door unless you wanted it for off roading less places for water to get in when serious wading

Haven't seen many top spec ones for sale tbh, and would probably be cheaper to get them on ebay when they pop up or from a breaker?

I agree with the impracticality of the 3 door - but they can always use the passenger side to get in?

I would use it offroading, and maybe eventually for wading, but not for a while as i'd need to mod to accordingly :)

I do enjoy gardening ;)

Regarding the leather, dont think you would find some one breaking a 3door with leather that easily, duno if its hard or easy to make disco seats foldey one so u can get people in and out the back, theres alot of ones with leather out there , not as many as fabric but theres plenty out there

Also, mileage - is it worth getting a relatively low mileage one? or do they go on forever and ever? - as long as maintained I'm put off from most at 180k+ ideally want something around the 120k mark - not too picky :p

Now knowing how the seats are put together, but would you be able to take the bottom/back off a solid one and fit it too a foldy seat frame? - guessing the frame folds and the seat just goes with it?

Mileage is just a number, depends if its been looked after or not, you could get one with 20k on the clock thats destroyed is its never been serviced etc!
