Hi
I have just got myself a 130 pick up with a 300tdi.
I will be converting it in to an overland camper but my first task is to make the engine reliable.
I am not a mechanic but have a fair bit of amateur skills as most landy owners do. Plus with youtube and forums like this I'm sure I will be able to do most of the work myself.
I was hoping to get some advice on what would be worth renewing engine wise as obviously most of the parts are 20+ years old.
I'm slowly tickling through it I would just rather priorities the right things.
Any advice is more than welcome.
Cheers

Brilliant thank you.
I have started from the outside in.
Upgraded suspension new brakes etc but just want to get stuck into the engine but didn't really know where to start.
Hopefully I can use this thread to generate a list of things to tickle through.

Is the engine out and you are going to rebuild it or are you just looking at general maintenance things such as timing belts etc?

A lot will depend on its general condition / mileage, do you have any service history etc. I would suggest if you have a lot of history and it is relatively low mileage (sub 100 - 120k miles) then it may not be worth stripping it unless you have concerns. Some 300s have got mega miles (200-300K) on them and do that with just regular maintenance.

I was hoping to gather together a list of things that need doing and check through the part service history to see if it was done.
It's 114000 miles.
We are planning to take the landrover on a round the world adventure so I'm wanting to do as much as possible before we go so I don't have to do any major work in Africa.

In that case why not get the service intervals and maintenance check list. It is included in the Rave download.

Cheers

that would mean looking at crank bearings cam belt and head gasket as a start imo
