Hello,

Just a quicky here. I've searched but it came back with no results! Please can someone tell me the correct inlet and exhaust valve clearances for a 300 tdi engine please?

Cheers

VALVE CLEARANCES.

1. rotate crankshaft by means of crankshaft pully bolt in a clock wise direction untill number 8 valve (counting from front of engine) is fully open.

2.using feeler gauges and a screw driver, adjust clearence of number one valve.
valve clearences - all valves = 0.20mm

3.tighten tappet adjusting screw locknut when clearance is correct.

4.adjust remaining valve clearances on the following sequence.

adjust number 3 clearence with number 6 valve fully open
adjust number 5 clearence with number 4 valve fully open
adjust number 2 clearence with number 7 valve fully open
adjust number 8 clearence with number 1 valve fully open
adjust number 6 clearence with number 3 valve fully open
adjust number 4 clearence with number 5 valve fully open
adjust number 7 clearence with number 2 valve fully open

5. upon compleation, recheck all clearances and adjust as necessary.

Right so now the valve collars have gone.. any feedback on changing these would be much appreciated.. special tips?

Valve collars? I trust you mean caps and not collet as the valve would have fallen into the engine if the collet's had disappeared!

First thing to do is get GOOD caps. Even the Gen LR ones are poor now. If you can make a mark on the cap with a hacksaw then it's rubbish.

I get mine from Turner Engineering.

Wind the adjuster a bit so you can slip them in, bit of molyslip under the cap and carefully pop it onto the top of the valve. Set the clearance then put a little moly slip in-between the cap and the rocker. Rocol MT-LM would do too.
