Hi, I've got a 1998 Discovery S1 300TDI.

I'm looking to increase the performance a little by adjusting the fuel injector pump, but the unit doesn't look quite like the Bosch VE unit that is shown on the various HOWTO's around the Internet.

The unit has a Bosch logo on it, but I can't see any other identifying marks.

Can anyone identify this part?

Is it possible to tune it?

yours should have a air flow meter on the air box pipe, so you will have an ecu! get it chipped ;)

If you have an automatic gearbox, the injection pump is electronically controlled, not like the one on all the how-to's.

However, if you want your Disco to be more lively for very little money you could do the following, I did and mine goes really well (for a 2ton truck!!):

1. De-EGR - about £20 for the kit inc a new intercooler hose;

2. De-Catt - £22+vat for a Defender non-catt downpipe, and a new straght-through system £31+vat;

3. Wash out the intercooler with whit spirits -£1, it will work better;

4. Put in a new air filter - £4;

5. Change all transmission oils for fully synth - £100

6. Silicone intercooler hoses - £47+vat;

7. Run your tyres at 2.5 all round - £0

8. Clean out the fuel sedimenter and put in a new fuel filter - £5

That's get you going :D :D :D

Cheers
Dave

Thanks for the replies.

I've already removed the EGR which made a difference, and I'm working through the other items on Dave's list.

Anyone know a cheap source for a chip?

Be careful with cheap chips - you pay for what you get

There are chips that plug straight on and there are companies that will tailor the chip to your requirements / best for your engine

When I looked at having mine done the tailored ones cost the most. In the end I settled for one provided by allisport who supplied and fitted the intercooler, silicone hoses and decatted it.

Allisport / TD5 Alive / IRD developments are just a few that spring to mind prob a load more if you google it.

The tyres at 2.5 bar I think different tyres sizes / types / manufacturers rmay recommend different pressures

rest of that list sounds sensible advice
