hi guys,im back again.im wanting to either remove or blank off my egr valve, what i need to know is what is the difference between blanking it of and removing it,also do i need to do anything else like the timing or boost pressure also will it kill my engine or not.
thanks

Removing it = goes in the bin.
Blanking it = stays where it is but does nothing but get in the way.

My one is removed, vac pipe sealed and tucked away as is plug.

Clean all the gunk out of manifold, pipes and intercooler and away you gou, usually better performance/mpg. One less part to breakdown.

ok thanks mate.got the kit but before i start the bolts that fasten the egr to the manifold do they come out ok or are they liable for snapping in the manifold.

My 90 300tdi EGR had been removed and fitted with a plate when I bought it. For the 300tdi disco I did the other day I made a plate from a piece of scrap aluminium and fitted it between the EGR and manifold leaving everything else in place. I then fitted a decat pipe and cleaned the manifold and intercooler. The disco ran much smoother and seemed to perform better after the mods, I'll ask the owner if he's getting more MPG.
You don't need to do anything else and I have never heard any reports of EGR removal causing problems with reliability or causing damage.

Hi, Removed my EGR at weekend, sprayed bolts with WD-40, went for a drive come back & gingerly cracked the bolts while manifold was still hot came off no problem! probably just lucky but hope luck continues as its de-cat pipe this weekend.

ok guys thanks.already done decat on mine i noticed quite a bit of difference mainly on low torque but it was definatly noticable.

When i did mine the 2 bolts sheared off, i had to drill them a size bigger and tap them M10 then fitted the stainless steel blanking plate and new intercooler hose, the amount of crap and soot that was on the old hose was ...well yuk

I removed my EGR about 4 weeks ago, came off ok but the amout of gunge that had built up around the entrance to the inlet manifold was leaving only about 60% of the original sized hole, now that I have cleaned it all out and fitted the new parts it runs so much better and you can actually feel the turbo kicking in.

There was a bit of white smoke that came out when it was first used for the first couple of days but this has disappeared now, I have put it down to the WD40 I used to clean out all the crap.

The down (up) side of increasing the performance is that I have now spent another £700 on suspension and stuff! +2 lift kit, replacement bushes, set of 265/75/16 Insa Turbo Dakars and 2 rolls of window tint, even fixed some of the water leaks from the sunroof and side windows.

hi my egr valve when ive looked at it today has a gasket then a plate then a gasket then the valve all this fastens to the manifold,is this right or has someone already put a blanking plate on it.i thought it would be a gasket then valve.
thanks
richard

I did my EGR valve last month on a 98 Tdi and it only had a gasket then the valve. However there's another post on here about EGR valve that talks about a sandwich plate between the manifold and the valve to stop the valve getting too hot, but I think that's on a Defender engine. Only way to find out for sure is to take the EGR off and see for yourself. It's only a pain to remove the valve if the bolts shear, but I found plenty of WD40 and a bit of gentle persuasion got my bolts off no probs. One advantage of taking the EGR off altogether is that you get a bit more space in the engine bay. Hope this helps.
