i no its been done and there's a fair amount of info out there but I have a few questions, looking to do this to my 90 over the winter may do a build thread as not contributed much to this site

So

Allot of conversions I see the auto selector is where the centre seat is , is there a way it can be put where the manual gear stick is as I'd like to retain my centre seat

Propshafts is there a bolt on version or do the need to be custom made

Also are there any niggles/ hard jobs to come across putting an auto 300tdi engine and gearbox in a 90

It currently has a disco 200tdi in it I was going to auto that but from what I've been reading it wouldn't have enough power to pull the skin off a rice pudding

Any info or tips would be much appreciated I'm in the planning in my head stage

Cheers in advance

Selector can (within reason) go wherever you can locate it.
It is a Bowden cable so as long as it is long / short enough and you get the correct bending radius and manufacture a mounting to fit then the world is your lobster. As you may have spotted in my 300TDi auto conversion thread that I recently posted, I used an Ashcroft NAS copy console (V.nice).

Can't comment on propshafts, mine used standard 300TDi parts.

Can only comment on the gearbox and have to say that as a conversion that came with no fitting instructions (and I did not have a donor vehicle to crib from remember) it was a miserable job. Goes well now it is all fitted though.

200TDi & 300TDi are basically the same performance wise so really it will all depend on the state of your engine, the gearing, weight of the vehicle and what you use it for.
My 300TDi 90 soft-top is still in top notch condition (having carried out only 40K miles from new), fitted with a Disco 1.2 transfer-box (a throw-back to when it was brand-new and I chose this gearing), 265/75x16's and carries no unnecessary weight. Performance is excellent and it pulls the higher gearing with ease, only been finished for a few weeks but at the moment I can't see any need to change to the 1.4 transfer-box.

If you haven't driven a LR auto before then probably worth trying one first but I have to say I am a real convert (no pun intended).

That's grea t thank you for the reply yes have driven a few now and I'm keen
I've got a disco 1 300tdi lined up to whip what I want from so should have what I need

Just seeking any extra info I can find

Do you have a link to your conversion thread

That's great thanks for that link really appreciate it I'm on a bit of a budget so may have to get the mig out a few times but it's good to see what other people have done
