In the diagram above, #8 is a stud that holds the tensioner to the water pump housing.

Just below where its located is a recess, show in the diagram, where a nut screws onto a stud that then holds the housing to the block.

I cant find this stud on any of the diagrams i look at. Pictures of the block dont show it, nor where it even goes.

The reason im asking?

Mine is snapped off, and i need to work out how deep is safe to drill.

Do you mean the stud in the hole indicated on the ( badly modified ) diag above??

If so, I can probably measure one tomorrow, if that helps...?

Yep, spot on.

Would be very much appreciated. Ive trawled the internet, and found similar posts on forums from years back, with no documented conclusion!

well. we have 3 of em, but one is sans the relevant bits ATM, and so it should be easy to measure the stud for you.... ( famous last words !! ) :)

It does - a lot.

Thank you very much for going to the effort for me (and for all those who read this thread in the future, whilst running the same google searches that i did!)

Thank you, but.... : )

The fact that the above is called "tensioner stud" implies, to me, that its a tensioner stud.

Not the housing stud, that happens to be located behind the tensioner.

Indeed, ive just looked up part number #8 in the diagram in the first post, and, sure enough, its TE110151 - ie not the 67mm long part in the photograph above.

Im not saying that TE110151 woulnt work, just that it is not the correct part.

HTH :) .... it's sometimes worth trying another search engine... in any event ditch g**gle - cos they track the living daylights out of you

That is the part number from Land rover Microcat for the #8 part as shown in first post this thread. Described in Microcat as tensioner stud 10 x 75. Do you think the part in the photo above maybe wrong.

I re read the orignal post - there is room for ambiguity.

Its not #8 that I need, but the part below it.

Do you mean "my" photo ? - I'm not being funny - but I have a 300 TDi in bits at the mo, and took that out of the block to photograph it for @julianf

Seriously, the block is tapped M8, so M10 ain't going in there.

I've got microcat too - and I can't find the stud in question in there.... I've got a nephew who works for JLR too..... its not the only omission !

The description in Microcat maybe wrong exhaust studs are also described as M10 think they are M8. So the part number will be correct with the wrong description. #8 is the stud that secures the tensioner of that there is no doubt. The Rimmers item will be correct. But that is not what he is looking for re reading the post.

its an m8 stud as uses a 13mm headed nut stud should be screwed into the block and should be err5691 it also holds one end of the p gasket
