I had the front seal (only) changed on my bosch pump a while back. For various reasons, ive not had a decent drive until today, and its now gutless, whilst before it was not.

I know there are so many settings on the IP, so im wondering what would have needed to be re-set when the front seal was done?

I am the original owner of this pump, from new, so, assume, it was set up to stock settings before the re-seal.
Thats all i need back.

From what you say, it was resealed by someone else.

Was the "reseal" done by a reputable company?

Who refitted the pump?

Cheers

The re-seal was done by a diesel specalist that has a handful of premisis.
Ive used them before, but...

On this occasion i took them two pumps, this one and another. When i came to fit the other one (which is just a spare) i just cant get it to work. Resorted to pulling one off a breaker, and using that one (which bled up and fired up fine)

...so it may be that both were done by a monkey, but it was too late for comback.

The one in question was not fitted by me, but a LR independant. Youre thinking the timing, right? I mean its hardly rocket science doing the 300 (they did the belt at the same time) so i doubt thats it.

I think the pump has just been set up badly. If there is only, say, one setting that gets disturbed when doing the front seal, ill just mess with that, but, if there's a whole stack of them, i might pull it and sent it to diesel bob.

I don't suppose you know if the pump was dismantled to change the seal or just the old one pulled out and a new one pushed it? You could remove the diaphragm to see if the fuel pin score marks still align with the small pin at the bottom, that will check it has been put back in correct (same) place.
Timing is worth a check, unfortunately I would want to check the cam timing too so would mean front cover off (at least you will be able to confirm the belt is at the correct tension).

Im sorry - ive not signed in here for some time.

And, no - no progress, im afraid. The engine is in my 101, and its more of a summer time vehical - and working on it is nicer in the summer too!

Im concerned about another issue though -

The vehicle was at a garage for a long time (which is a whole other story) - when i picked it up, i got a little way down the road, and realised the matrix was not hot, so stopped immediately, topped it up, etc. Im worrying now that the garage may have run it to the mot station without proper cooling. Starts on the button though, so i would have thought something bad would show up as lack of compression there.

Last time i tried to remove some glow plugs to test compression, i wished i had never started, so i think i would rather send the pump off for testing, given that the re-seal people managed to render its twin useless.

....but obviously there are checks to do first. Its just been cold and wet, and ive been lazy.

Nothing wrong with not wanting to work on your Landy in the cold and wet.
